FIELD REPORT (521 - MISD - 0023) 23 September 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Subject was cooperative and talked freely, but no tactical information was available due to being in the signal section.

3. REMARKS:
Subject was inducted in the Army on 11 Aug 50 at SINUIJU (新義州). At that time the 70th Mixed Regiment was being activated and subject was assigned to the signal section fo the Regiment. The strength of the 70th Regiment was estimated at 4,000 men. The signal section of the Regiment was equipped with only telephone apparatus and was not armed with any weapons and was directly under the Regtl Hdqtrs. There was no Russian officer in the signal section but subject observed five Russian officers (Company grade), attached to the 70th Regiment. Then the 70th Regiment moved to a place called “SAGA” which was located 7.8 km SE of “SINUIJU.” The signal section in which was attached to received fundamental training on communications for 1 week. Then on 25 Aug, they were ordered to “KESONG.” From KESONG they (70th Regt) marched to “SUWON” for the defense of this city. At the time the 70th Regiment reached SUWON there were no other units there. The approximated date of arrival was 15 Sep. From 15 Sep to the date of capture (21 Sep) subject was engaged in the laying of communication wire.
The Hdqtrs for the 70th Regiment was located in SEOUL. The hdqtrs was situated in a middle school building (KYUKI).
During the term of capture, subject's opinion was that the majority of the 70th Regiment was sent to INCHON for battle.
