ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1313　26 September 1950

FIELD REPORT (521 - MISD - 0020)　22 September 1950

Subject was very cooperative and information seems reliable.

a. The units under or attached to the Front Line Hq are as follows: (Ref. to chert #1 and #2)

(1) Air Division

(2) 18th Inf Division

(3) SUWON (水原) Defense Brigade

(4) SEOUL Defense Brigade

(5) 1st Army (or Corps?)

(6) 2nd Army (or Corps?)

(7) Independent Division

(8) Engr Regt

(9) RR Regt

b. Strength and Location of the Above Units:

(1) SEOUL Defense Brigade

Location - Hq at KYONGGI (京畿) Middle School

Strength - Organized about 2 months ago.

Actual strength unknown.

(2) 1st Army (or Corps?)

Location - Hq at KUMCHON (金泉) a month ago.

Believe to have been moved to an unk place.

Strength - Has 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Inf Div now believed to be located along the West side of NAKTONG River.

Each Div consisted of approx 10,000 to 11,000 men.

(3) 2nd Army (or Corps)

Location - Hq at SANGJU (尙州) but believed to have been moved to an unk place.

Strength - Consisted or 1st, 12th, 13th, and 15th Div and possibly 2 more Divs. Each Div consisted of approx 10,000 to 11,000 men.

(4) Independent Div.

Location - Hq at PO HANG (浦項)

Strength - Formerly celled 5th Inf Div Consisted of approx 10,000 to 11,000 men.

(5) Engr Regt

Location - A part of its regimental Hq was located at 9608 -4004 (Ref to map "KYONGSONG or SEOUL (KEIJO)" 1:12,5000) and other half of its regimental Hq is believed to be located in the area of NAKTONG River.

Strength - Regiment consisted of following Bns:

(a) Light Amph Bn located at TANYANG (丹陽) and CHUNGJU (忠州) Consisted of approx 400 men.

(b) Heavy Amph Bn located along the area of NAKTONG River Consisted of approx 500 to 600 men.

(c) Tech Bn scattered in the area of HACHUNG-JONG (合井洞) MAPOO-DOO (麻浦洞), and KUWAN ZUNG RI (廣壯里) Consisted of 4 companies, Water Supply Co, Camouflage Co, Electric Co. and Bridge and Road Const Co. Bn. strength is approx 400 - 500 men.

(d) NCO Training Bn. located along the line of NAKTONG River.

(e) Special Engr Bn located along the line of NAKTONG River.

This Bn specialized in laying mines and setting dynamite charges.

Consisted of approx 400 - 500 men.

(6) RR Regt.

Location - At former Police RR School, 97 07 41 09 (Ref to map "KYONGSONG or SEOUL (KEIJO)" 1:12,500)

Strength - Consisted of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th RR Bn.

3rd RR Bn located vicinity RR Crossing, approximately 4 miles N of PUNWON-NI. Each RR Bn. consisted of approx 400 to 500 men.

Forward headquarters is believed to be located at KUMCHON (金泉) at present and its rear headquarters at SEOUL.

i. PMO (KUMCHON)

j. G-2 Section (KUMCHON)

k. G-3 Section (Main Hqs in KUMCHON, Rear Hqs in SEOUL)

l. AG Section (Main Hqs in KUMCHON, Rear Hqs in SEOUL)

The above-mentioned two units, the SUWON Def Brigade and the SEOUL Def Brigade, are two entirely seperate units.

The Subject state that all gasoline was supplies from a gasoline dump located somewhere in the WAN SHIN RI area, SEOUL City.

About a month ago, subject was told by a friend, also a major, that 3 additional divisions were then being organized at some place North of the 38th parallel. Subject does not know state of readiness, description, or equipment of these divisions. He learned in the same conversation that a complete survey of all NK youth over 18 years old had just been completed and that universal conscription could therefore be enforced at any time.
