ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1304　26 September 1950

FIELD REPORT (521 - MISD - 0011)　22 September 1950

Subject seemed to be of average intelligence. He was cooperative and talked freely. His information seemed fairly reliable.

Subject was inducted into 591 Intendance Bn at SOPO (西浦) on the 19 Jun 49 and received clerical work training.

He was transfered to 18th Div, 2nd Inf Reg’t, 2nd Bn, 5th Co, 4th Plat on 20 July 1950. At this time his duty was platoon leader.

He was captured by "G" co on 18 Sep 50 Marine Div.

Subject was transfered to 18th Div, 2nd Inf Reg’t, 5th Co, 4th Plat. Strength of the 18th Div was unknown, however subject states that approx 2,000 men were in each inf reg't. Subject did not know how many reg'ts was there in 18th Div, however he knew 1st and 2nd reg’ts.

Under 1st Reg't there were 3 inf Bns (#l, #2, #3) and under 2nd Reg't, there were 3 inf Bns (#4, #5, #6).

Strength of a bn was 500 men when he was transfered here, but there were only 2 men left men subject was captured.

There were 3 infantry companies in each Bn. Strength of each Co was 120 men when subject was transfered here. There were 3 inf platoons and 1 transportation platoon in each company. 32 men in infantry platoon and 8 men in transportation platoon.

This 18th Div was called 18th Infantry Brigade prior to 20 Jul 50.

When war was started 18th Div was stationed at SOPO (西浦) and stayed there until 20th Jul 50, then went to YON TUN PO (永登浦).

Subject moved from here to BU PYON (富平). The 1st and 2nd Inf Reg't of 18 Div was annihilated here. Destination of the 18th Div was supposedly INCHON.

This unit was never engaged before. No information was available concerning other reg’ts in the 18th Div.

No other unit was in BU PYON area with exception of the 18th Div HQs which was located in a place called YONG DUNG PO (永登浦).

1st and 2nd Inf Reg’ts stayed there with HQ until 9 Sep 50 and then these 2 reg'ts departed for BU PYON and the division HQs was believed to be moved to SEOUL.

All weapon are Russian made. 15 mortars (82mm), 9 heavy machine guns, 27 light machine guns in each regiment. No tanks, no trucks.

Subject believed that all these weapon in the 1st and 2nd Reg’ts were destroyed. 1 hand grenade and 100 rounds of rifle ammunition to each man.

Division Commander of 18th Div was KIM, FUNG (金興). He was one star general and believed to be still alive.

The 5th Company Commander was KIM SHI FUNG (金時興). Rank was Sr Lt.
