T/O AND E AND STRENGTH OF: Indep Guerrilla Unit.
The Indep Guerrilla Unit was activated at SEOUL on 30 Jul 50.
The Indep Guerrilla Unit was composed of three (3) companies. Each company was composed of two (2) platoons and each platoon consisted of 2 squads.
Two thirds of the personnel in the Indep Guerrilla Unit were conscripted South Koreans.

LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNIT:
The Indep Guerrilla Unit on 18 Sep 50 retreated from KUMGOK TONG to KUNWI to join elements of the 8th North Korean Div.
The Indep Guerrilla Unit’s mission was to infiltrate U.S. lines, set up road blocks, harass supply lines and attack U.S. artillery positions.
The guerrillas were clothed in South Korean Army uniforms.

PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted 30 Jul 50, with 300 South Koreans at INCHON. Between 30 Jul 50 and 6 Aug 50, the newly inducted recruits received close-order drill. On 6 Aug 50, the informant and 50 others were picked from the group to form the Indep Guerrilla Unit. On 7 Aug 50, the Unit marched to SEOUL, where weapons ware issued. Finally arrived KUMGOKTONG 17 Sep 50.
On 18 Sep 50, the informant's unit's movement was discovered by ROK Forces and they were attacked. The informant, although wounded, managed to escape. On 19 Sep 50, he was taken prisoner while deserting his unit.

FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES.:
The informant saw three (3) ammo dumps on the UISONG - UPO highway. Each dump contained about 1 x truck load of ammo, The 1st ammo dump was located 4 kms out of UISONG, the 2nd dump 8 kms out and the 3rd dump 12 kms out of UISONG.

ARMOR AND ARTILLERY:
On 10 Sep 50, the informant saw about 40 x T-34 tanks in the vicinity of ANDONG.
The company commander of the informant’s unit told the troops that the tanks belonged to a newly-activated tank division.
On 10 Sep 50, the informant saw about 20 artillery pieces, in camouflaged gun emplacements on both sides of the highway extending from UISONG to UPO. The informant heard that the guns were part of the 8th Division Artillery Regt.

MORAL:
Morale was very low among the guerrillas of the Indep Unit because:
(1) They were forced to join the unit
(2) Fatigue and lack of food
(3) Guerrillas were mostly students
(4) Guerrillas do not have the will to fight
