ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1288　24 September 1950

FIELD REPORT (164 - MISDI - 0925)　21 September 1950

Cooperative. Information extremely limited because PW received no military training and had been in his unit only 11½ hrs before he was captured.

Inducted on 20 Aug 50 at SEOUL into the "Volunteer Army." Received no training

Departed from SEOUL on 30 Aug 50 with approx 450 South Korean "Volunteers" of the NKPA.

Finally reached YANGGI DONG 16 Sep 50.

Departed from YANGGI DONG on 16 Sep marched and arrived at a point about 12 km North of ANDONG. There on 16 Sep 50 PW and 450 recruits joined approx 1,000 other conscripts of the "Volunteer Army."

Continuing on 16 Sep 50 with about 1,500 "Volunteers," marched arrived at ANDONG 16 Sep 50, and SINNYONG (1170-1460) 18 Sep.

Departed from SINNYONG on 18 Sep 50, marched and joined the 45 Regt, 15 Div, on a hill approx 6 km North of YONGCHON at approx 181800 K Sep 50. An unknown number of men (including PW) were issued grenades instead of rifles at this time. When PW's battalion (1 Bn, 45 Regt) was attacked by the ROK Army at 190500 K Sep 50 on the above=mentioned hill, PW's platoon leader (2 Plt, 1 Co, 1 Bn, 45 Regt) fled and PW's squad leader was killed. Therefore PW and 4 others from the 2 squad, 2 Plt, 1 Co, 1 Bn, 45 Regt surrendered to the ROK at 190730 K Sep 50.

Observed 8 US PsW at ANDONG on 16 Sep 50.

It was rumored among the 15 Div replacements that CCF forces have arrived in NORTH KOREA to assist the NKPA and that additional weapons would soon be arriving from the USSR.
