2. ASSESSMENT:
PW seemed intelligent, but vague on many points. He claims he was interrogated about 10 times by US forces.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
1 Mar 49: PW was inducted into the Manchurian Army at FUSHUN (撫順). Received one month’s basic training, then performed guard duty.
21 Jul 49: Transffered to SINUIJU (新義州) into the NKPA with the entire Manchurian 6th Div which was made up of Koreans. Here he received additional military and political training.
O/a Mar 50: The 14th Regt of the 6th Div was transferred by train to SIBYON-NI (市边里) where it became part of the 1st Div. The 1st Div was organized at SlBYON-NI. PW received political training and went on maneuvers.
O/a 21 Jun 50: Left SIBYON-NI on foot and marched south crossing the 38th parallel 25 Jun 50 somewhere north of MUNSAN (汶山).
26 Jun 50: Engaged ROK forces. PW was hit by a shell-fragment and was sent to a hospital in KAESONG (開城).
4 Aug 50: Remember passing through P'YONGYANG by train.
6 Aug 50: Arrived in SEOUL.
8 Aug 50: Left SEOUL on foot to look for his Div. He marched along the main road via SUWON (水原), T'AEJON (大田), and KUMCH’ON (金泉) and rejoined the 1st Div somewhere north of T'AEGU at KASAN (架山) 9 Sep 50. Ho clams he found his Div by asking as he marched.
9 Sep 50: When he joined his unit the Regt'l commander stated that he had to go on a mission with 14 other men to sabotage the TAEGU Airfield by blowing up the fuel dump. This mission was led by a Jr Lt. Enroute to the airfield four men were wounded. The remaining eleven men reached a point loss than 4 km N of the field. They were able to see the airfield from the hill top. At this point they were discovered by Korean police and surrounded. They were then fired upon. Four were killed. PW and seven (7) other surrendered. The Jr Lt was also captured. This mission was started without even knowing where the fuel dump was located. The members of this mission were to scatter after they reached the vicinity of the airfield to work independently. The eleven (11) men were armed with 4 PPsh SMGs, 4 carbines and 4 rifles. Holes were to be shot into fuel drums and the gasoline was to be ignited.

Supply:
Observed supply trucks utilizing the main highways during the night but know of no ammunition supply dumps.

Intentions:
Heard that the 1st Div's objective was T’AEGU.

Personalities:
1st Div CO was CH'OE Kwang (崔光), Maj Gen. Military background unknown. 1st Regt CO: HWANG Sok (黃錫), Col. 8th Co CO: KIM Ki T’ae (金기泰) (김기泰), Sr Lt.

Morale & Propaganda:
Morale was low due to lack of food and ammunition. Casualties were high. Replacements were poorly trained and afraid to fight. Men in the Div lost their confidence. He saw no UN propaganda leaflets and was told by his CO that if captured they would be killed by the UN troops.

4. GENERAL:
1. PW received no direct orders on how to treat UN PsW. He heard they were sent to the rear. O/a 1 Sep 50 in T'AEJON PW saw about 100 PsW in a house in T'AEJON (exact location unknown). PW heard from fellow soldier that this was a PW camp. He observed PsW while he was travelling and could not elaborate on the condition and/or treatment of PsW.
2. PW estimated the present strength of the 1st Div to be about 50% of the original strength which included replacements from S KOREA.
