2. ASSESSMENT:
Physical condition of PW good. PW not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
8 Aug 50 - PW was inducted into the NKPA at CH’UNGJU (忠州). Received one week of basic infantry training. The 'volunteer' army unit which was formed at CH'UNGJU was divided into 12 companies of 190 men each.
15 Aug 50 - Three (3) companies of 190 men each departed CHUNGJU on foot.
3 Sep 50 - The advance party of approx tow (2) companies arrived at KASAN (架山) (1150-1450). This unit travelled only under cover of darkness via HAMCH’ANG (咸昌) and KUNWI (軍威) but they were attached from the air many times enroute. PW counted approximately 50 casualties. The 'volunteer' Army unit of approximately 500 men were assigned to the 1st Div as replacements and PW, together with 2 others, was assigned to the 2nd Sqd, 2nd Plt, 8th Co, 3rd Bn, 14th Regt, 1st Div.
9 Sep 50 - A raiding party was called for and the PW volunteered He was included in a group of fifteen (15) men who were ordered to raid the airfield at T'AEGU. This group was equipped with 4 x LMG, 6 x rifles, 5 x SMG's. Also each man was given 4 hand grenades. Four (4) men were wounded enroute.
11 Sep 50 - The raiding party encountered an ROK unit 8 km NE of T’AEGU, and PW believes that two (2) men were killed and nine (9) men were captured.

Equipment:
PW observed 5 x 76-mm Field artillery, 4 x ZIS-151 trucks, 5 x US jeeps, and 1 x AA MG at KASAN 3 Sep 50. Further details unknown.

Dispositions:
PW heard that the 1st Div CP was located in one of the largest buildings in a village composed of 20 houses. This village was located 20 km N of KASAN, and withing a large valley where a 30 meter wide river ran past the village. (5 Sep 50)
PW hauled mortar shells from an ammunition dump located 8 km N of KASAN. This dump was located near a village and it was camouflaged with tree branches. (5 Sep 50)

Communications:
Roads - Generally in good condition.
Bridges - All large bridges were damaged and none were repaired.

Intentions:
The objective of the 1st Div was to capture T'AEGU.

Morale and Propaganda:
PW volunteered to join the 'Volunteer' Army because an order was issued from the Myon (County) office which stated that all families will be executed if eligible members of any family did not volunteer for the Army. Majority of the members of the Volunteer Army were inducted under duress and their morale was very low.
