2. ASSESSMENT:
PW had very little military information. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
6 Aug 50: PW forced into the Volunteer Corps, along with an estimated 1,000 other SEOUL young men.
7 Aug 50: 1,000 marched from SEOUL, through CH’UNGJU (忠州), HAMCH’ANG (咸昌) to KUNWI (軍威).
o/a 2 Sep 50: 1,000 men, unarmed, arrived KUNWI where they were distributed to unidentified units. Observed an estimated 2,000 unarmed S. Koreans, also of the Volunteer Corps moving east through KUNWI.
o/a 4 Sep 50: PW arrived HWASAN (花山) and assigned to the 7th Co, 3rd Bn, 1st Regt, 1st Div. Undetermined number assigned to the 1st Div. 3rd Bn was deployed on high ground around HWASAN.
o/a 8 Sep 50: 15 officers and EM of 3rd Bn, commanded by a Sr Lt (CO, 7th Co) formed a raiding party and departed for T'AEGU airfield. Mission: to destroy UN aircraft at T'AEGU airfield. Each man armed with 3 x RG-42 offensive hand grenades and 1 x RPG-43 hand grenade. Also armed with either Russian SMGs or rifles. One day ration of fried peas carried by each man.
11 Sep 50: Raiding party was disorganized after a brief fire fight with ROK forces. PW captured immediately thereafter.

Unit Strength: 7th Co, 3rd Bn, 1st Regt, 1st Div
o/a 4 Sep 50 - 7th Co personnel strength approx 150, 70% of which were freshly conscripted replacements.

Equipment: 7th Co
o/a 4 Sep 50 - PW uncertain of heavy weapons on hand however, all personnel armed with either Russian rifles or SMGs. Note: No tanks or SP’s observed in HWASAN sector. Artillery pieces unobserved.

4. GENERAL:
Red Cross insignia: PW observed NKPA hospital trucks at CHANGHOWON-NI (長湖院里) and at KUNWI with large Red Cross insignia, transporting wounded NKPA troops. Medical corpsmen with Red Gross insignia on arm band, observed at HAMCH’ANG.

Blackmarket:
A flourishing blackmarket care into being immediately after the NKPA occupation of SEOUL. Almost all of the civilians in SEOUL, able to afford blackmarket prices, were involved in such dealings. Transactions were done in the open and there seems to be no restrictions on blackmarketing. To the best of PW's knowledge the blackmerket was not organized and controlled by any particular group.

shoes - 1 pr : 1,700 ROK won
cigarettes - per pack: 200 ROK won
