ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative. Information seems reliable.
He was a former South Korean Army officer (1st Lt). Since YOSU Incident, PW was detained in prison at KYONGSONG from 19 Oct 48 to 28 June 50. He insisted that he was not involved in that incident, but was blamed by a fellow officer because of jealousy over his promotion.
Recommend further interrogation by CIC on his former service with US Army (KMAG).

LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
6th Div CP & Recon Co were located in vicinity of NAEDONG (內洞) on 13 Sep 50.
14th Regt (code no 657), 6th Div was observed in vicinity of IPKOK RI (入谷里) o/a 8 Sep 50.

PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted on 13 July 50 at KYONGSONG.
Received no training because of his former military experience.
A group of approx 500 conscripts (after receiving 1 to 2 weeks Infantry training) departed KYONGSONG on 13 July 50.
Arrived CHINJU 17 Aug 50.
PW was assigned to Recon Co, 6th Div at NAEDONG (內洞) on 20 Aug 50.
PW with 20 others from the Company left MYONGDONG (明洞) on a recon mission. On 24 Aug 50, they arrived on a mountain N of CHINOONG NI. From their lookout point, they reported UN truck movements.
From this point they moved up to another mountain at IPKOK RI (入谷里) on 28 Aug 50.
They had one (1) wireless, 33 x SMG’s, 5 x pistols and 2 x carbines on hand.
PW deserted the unit on 13 Sep 50 and surrendered to US troops on 15 Sep 50.

REPLACEMENTS:
PW heard that 6th Div was supposed to receive 1,200 replacements (volunteers) at MYONGDONG on 26 Aug 50.
PW also heard that about 600 volunteers were scheduled to reach the 6th Div at KERIM SA (鷄林寺) on 1 Sep 50.

ARMOR & ARTILLERY:
While in the Recon Co, 6th Div, on 13 Sep 50; about 30 artillery pieces (120mm, 105mm & 76mm) were supporting the 659 & 657 units in HAMAN area.
About 20 artillery pieces (120mm, 105mm, 76mm) were supporting the 661 unit.
Hearsay: One tank Regt was supposed to aid 6th Div on general strike at HAMAN.

MORALE:
Morale of 6th Div was generally low, because it was composed mostly of volunteers who did not have combat experience.
Only 30% of the present membership of the 6th Div were with the Division when the war began. The other 70% consists of North Korean or South Korean replacements.

US PW’S:
About 50 to 60 US PW’s were observed at KYONGSONG on 11 July 50.
The former Military Government Building at KYONGSONG was being used as a PW Camp.
