RANK: Pvt
PW NO: 63 NK 4062
ORGN: 2nd Div, 4th Regt (Kekori Unit) 3rd Bn, 8th Co
DUTIES: Rifleman
EDUCATION: Primary School
AGE: 22
OCCUPATION: Laborer
ADDRESS: SEOUL SHI, SHUNGGU, CHUJADONG, #34 (서울시 중구 주자동 삼십사번지)
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 121000 K Sep 50, at CHANGYONG, by 38th Inf Regt
INTERROGATOR: T.M.O.

ASSESSMENT:
The informant seems sincere. Information, though limited, seems reliable.

PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted 10 Jul 50, SEOUL, with 600 others. The unit was designated the CHUNGBUK YUSONG CHUN UNIT (충북유성준부대) and it received 5 days of close-order drill prior to leaving for the front. Arrived CHANGYONG on 4 Sep 50.
On Sep 5, 1950, the YUSONG CHUN Unit was deactivated, and the troops were assigned to the various line units of the 4th Regt. The troops did not receive weapons until they reached the front.
On 5 Sep 50, the PW was sent to the rear to the Regimental Hospital. On 10 Sep 50, he was released from the hospital and was looking for his unit when he was captured on 14 Sep 50.

REPLACEMENT:
The informant was one of the 600 South Korean conscriptees who were received by the 4th Regiment, 4 Sep 50.
Replacements were usually trained for a few days then sent to the front. Type of training was usually close-order drill.
Replacements upon induction were issued one (1) set of clothing, one (1) pair rubber shoes, and a triangular cloth which was used in place of field packs. Weapons were issued at the front lines when available. The PW estimates that 1/3 of the replacements went into battle without arms.
The South Korean conscripts receive equal treatment in the North Korean Army, but they do not have the will to fight because of lack of weapons, lack of food & rest and forced induction.
Most of the leaders in the volunteer units are ex-convicts, released from prison when the North Korean Army entered SEOUL.
The PW states that every able bodied youth in occupied South KOREA will be conscripted for military service in the NKPA.

FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES;
The ammo dump for the 2nd Div is located 2 km East of the NAKTONG River near HYOPCHON. The ammo was placed in dugouts (camouflaged with vegetation) about 200 meters away from the road.
On 4 Sep 50, 600 cases of small arms ammo was delivered to the 4th Regt by the replacements. The ammo was picked up 2 km West of the NAKTONG River near HYOPCHON. No ammo received by Regt after 4 Sep 50.

AMOR & ARTILLERY:
On 4 Sep 50, about 5 x T-34 tanks were observed near the NAKTONG River East of HYOPCHON.
3 x Artillery pieces were observed in dugouts, 800 meters East of the NAKTONG River near CHANGNYONG (date unknown).

US PW'S:
On 2 Sep 50, eight (8) wounded US PW's were seen in HYOPCHON.

NORTH KOREAN FIELD HOSPITAL:
KOCHANG is the present base hospital for the North Korean Divisions flanking the 2nd Division. The PW saw several hundred wounded North Korean troops in KOCHANG enroute to the front.
