2. ASSESSMENT:
PW although of officer rank had limited information. No strategic information available.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
8 Feb 48 - PW assigned to Signal Plt, Div Arty of the newly activated 3rd Div stationed at HAMHUNG (咸興). PW’s training was connected solely with telephone communication.
Jul 48 - 3rd Div moved to WONSAN by rail. 3rd Div was composed of three full strength regts, plus a full strength artillery regt. Arty Regt had full T O & E allowance of 76-mm Guns and 122-mm Howitzers.
1 Mar 50 - PW, promoted to Jr Lt and assigned to a signal company, 48th Regt, 15th Div as a platoon leader. 15th Div, recently activated, was in the expansion stage at this time and stationed at HOERYONG (會寧).
28 Jun 50 - 15th Div composed of three full strength rifle regts plus artillery regt crossed the 38° Parallel N of CH'UNCH'ON.
7 Aug 50 - 15th Div waded NAKTONG River E of SANGJU (尙州). Up to this date 15th Div had only met rear guard elements of the ROK forces. Route taken by 15th Div up to river was by way of HONGCH'ON (洪川), MUNGUNG-Ni and KOESAN (槐山).
UN opposition began to stiffen after the river crossing. Movements and operations thereafter were confused.
O/a 2 Sep 50 - 48th Regt received an estimated 230 replacements (N. Koreans) NE of YONGCH'ON, while in reserve. PW is certain the other two regts also received replacements.
6 Sep 50 - 48th Regt dug in on high grounds 4-6 km NE of YONGCH'ON. It was reported at this time that the 50th Regt was in YONGCH'ON.
11 Sep 50 - 20 men of the 50th Regt, including the Regtl C/S, joined the 48th Regt at the above-mentioned hill. 50th Regt was repeatedly annihilated by counterattacking UN Forces at YONGCH'ON.
12 Sep 50 - 48th Regt attacked by tanks, artillery and air supported UN Forces. PW estimates casualties, at the least, sustained by the 48th Regt amounted to more than 60%.

4. GENERAL:
No Red Cross Insignia used on hospital buildings and vehicles. Medical corps men do nut wear arm bands. PW had never heard of any orders or instructions on rules pertinent to the Red Cross Insignia.
