Chronology:
PW's Co trained at NANAM (羅南) Oct 49 - 26 Jun 50. PW was trained in P'YONGYANG (平壤). No men or officers of PW's unit had served in the CCF. NCO’s were made from trainees.
PW's Co first entered combat in the P’OHANG-DONG (浦項洞) Area. There was no necessity to commit AT Co because of lack of enemy tanks prior to the engagement near P’OHANG-DONG. Daily attacked by UN aircraft. 4 KIA. PW doesn't remember first attack but it was approximately 6 weeks ago. On receiving attack from UN aircraft, the men of the company hid under trees. Passive air defense only.
Weapons were manufactured in RUSSIA but PW does not know year of manufacture. Maximum Range, 7700 m. Weight of projectile 4 kilograms 13 grams. KTM-1 Impact fuse was used against enemy MG positions. AP shell capable of penetrating 5mm of armor used.
Normal load of ammunition per piece was 50 rounds. Carried in horse-drawn carts. Ammunition was received from Regt Supply by truck. No radios or telephones in unit.
In normal employment, the 45-mm Co is employed in direct support of infantry companies or battalions. Guns occupy positions such as:
Between infantry and 45-mm Plt or Co Comdrs, orders are transmitted orally because of proximity in combat. 45-mm Guns are kept in the rear until reconnaissance is completed by infantry unit and the LD is established. Guns are placed according to recommendations of Inf CO or Bn CO. PW further stated that 45-mm Guns are used to attack enemy MG positions and normally unit to which 45-mm Guns are attached, serves as a base of fire for double envelopment. The infantry failed to carry out this maneuver in the P’OHANG-DONG Area and PW was captured as a result. PW stated that targets are chosen by infantry and 45-mm Comdrs after consultation. The supported infantry unit commanders have no authority to order the 45-mm Comdr to fire on certain targets.
