2. ASSESSMENT:
Reliability of information questionable. PW has no idea of dates or locations. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
24 Jun 50: Drafted in the NKPA at HAEJU (海州) and received 8 days basic training.
1 Aug 50: The 7th Div passed through SEOUL and crossed the HAN River near the RR bridge. The entire Div forded the river which was neck deep. Artillery and vehicles crossed over on a pontoon bridge.
o/a 10 Aug 50: Arrived at T’AEJON (大田). Here the Div sustained two strafing attacks by 4 jets. Each time the 1st Bn received about 150 casualties in the two attacks. PW knew of no replacements for these casualties.
o/a 13 Aug 50: The 3rd Regt departed T’AEJON. The 1st and 2nd Regt had departed two days earlier. The Regt marched during the day only along the T’AEJON-KUMCH’ON Road.
o/a 23 Aug 50: Passed through KUMCH’ON (金泉).
o/a 1 Sep 50: Arrived in CHINJU via K’OCH’ANG. The 3rd Regt marched during the night along the main road. Regt received no air attack during this march.
o/a 1 Sep 50: The 1st Plt moved S along the main highway during the night. The other plt remained in CHINJU.
o/a 7 Sep 50: Plt arrived at SAMCH’ONP’O (三千浦).
o/a 9 Sep 50: Departed SAMCH’ONP’O and marched along the road toward MASAN.
15 Sep 50: PW was left in the rear since he claimed to have a stomach ache. The exact location was not known, but he was in a mountainous area cost of MASAN. He was captured by US troops while asleep. Did not know what happened to his company which attacked earlier in the morning. PW saw no action but his company was shelled o/a 12 Sep 50 and he saw about 32 casualties.


Organization:
PW had no idea of the composition or organization of his division. He knew that his platoon had 44 men divided into four (4) sqds with 11 men in each sqd. Each sqd was equipped with one DP LMG and one PPs 1943 SMG. PW stated that the 3rd Regt never saw action prior to his capture.

Other units:
On 8 Aug 50 when PW passed through CHINJU he saw another unit of about a Bn strength and two (2) tanks.

Intentions:
The objective of the platoon was MASAN.

Personalities:
Unknown.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale was low mainly because of lack of food and the demoralizing effect of US artillery fire. PW saw a US Safe Conduct Pass leaflet for the first time when troops of his company were retreating from the front lines. He claims that he intended to surrender after seeing the leaflets.

4. GENERAL:
1. Observed about 15 guerrillas in the immediate area of his capture. Mission of these guerrillas was not known. They were armed with rifles.
2. There were 13 special troops behind the PW’s platoon to prevent soldiers from retreating.
