2. ASSESSMENT:
PW not very intelligent. Contradicted himself frequently. Seemed uncertain on the organizational weapons except for the guard platoon to which he was assigned. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
23 Apr 50: Inducted at HOERYONG (會寧) and received basic training with the No III Civilian Youth Trng Ctr. Center consisted of two training regts located in HOERYONG and another located in NAJIN (羅津). PW assigned to a regt'l guard platoon and his training included the usual infantry courses. The guard platoon's normal duty was to maintain security of the regt'l CP. Platoon armed with rifles.
o/a 24 Jun 50: Three regts, now known as the 48th, 49th and 50th Regts, departed HOERYONG by rail. The third trng ctr redesignated the 15th Div composed of the above three Regts. 48th Regt had a strength of about 3,000, at this date, and other two regts probably of the same size.
o/a 3 Sep 50: IPAM NI (立岩里) fell to the 15th Div after about a week of severe fighting. 15th Div remained in reserve, since outset of hostilities, up to CHANGHOWON-NI (長湖院里) where it was first committed. Next major battle of the 15th Div occurred at KUNWI. Subsequently, 15th Div was shifted to the IPAM-NI sector. After the battle of IPAM NI, 48th Regt had a mere 600-700 men, including some 300 S. Koreans who had just arrived.
o/a 7 Sep 50: Three Regts of the 15th Div, with an estimated strength of 2,000, launched a coordinate attack against YONGCH'ON (永川).
o/a 9 Sep 50: 48th Regt advanced to commanding grounds 1-2 km N of YONGCH'ON sustaining relatively light casualties.
11 Sep 50: 48th Regt completely encircled by powerful, counterattacking ROK forces supported by heavy artillery fire and devastating UN aerial attacks.
12 Sep 50: 48th Regt ordered to withdraw. An estimated 200 including PW managed to escape and reached IMCHO DONG, (臨草洞) located 6-8 km N of YONGCH'ON the following day. The fleeing remnants of the 48th Regts was pursued all the ROK by ROK infantry.
14 Sep 50: PW deserted from his unit and surrendered to the advancing ROK forces at IMCHO DONG. PW heard just prior to his surrender that the 50th Regt had been annihilated at YONGCH'ON. Disposition of the 49th Regt, unknown.


4. GENERAL:
Armor:
o/a 6 Sep 50: 3 out of the five (5) x SU-76 assigned to the 15th Div were irreparably damaged by UN aerial bombardment, at IMAM-NI (1200-1470). Remaining two were captured in YONGCH'ON (hearsay).
