2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative, but had very little information. Reliability - fair. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
1 Mar 50 - PW was inducted at HAMHUNG (咸興) and sent to HOERYONG (會寧) for basic training. PW was assigned to the 45-mm Gun Battery, 48th Regt, 15th Div. PW received 40 days basic training. Basic training consisted of close order drill, calisthenics political training, military courtesy, etc. PW's squad fired 20 rounds with 45-mm AT Gun. (PW indicated that 45-mm AT Guns were M1972 AT Gun type).
O/a 18 Jun 50 - 15th Div departed HOERYONG by train.
O/a 25 Jun 50 - 15th Div arrived KUMHWA (金化).
O/a 30 Jun 50 - The 48th Regt marched to CH'UNCH'ON (春川).
D/u Aug 50 - The 48th Regt reached 500 m N of UISONG (義城) via ANDONG. The 45-mm AT Gun Battery always followed behind the infantry. They did not fire guns until 500 m N of UISONG. The 45-mm AT Gun Btry shelled the town of UISONG, because there were some ROK troops remaining in the town.
The 15th Div advanced toward YONGCH'ON after they captured UISONG. The 45-mm AT Gun Btry followed the infantry.
8 Sep 50 - 15th Div entered YONGCH'ON. The N Koreans could not use their artillery because the UN aircraft bombing was severe. 45-mm AT Gun Battery of the 48th Regt moved to a roadside approx 4 km W of YONGCH'ON. They covered the guns with grass and the troops stayed in fox holes.
11 Sep 50 - The troops of the 15th Div started to retreat after they were badly mauled. PW's battery abandoned their guns and retreated. All the troops were scattered while retreating. PW was separated from rest and wandered around the YONGCH'ON Area.
14 Sep 50 - PW was captured by the ROK troops while sleeping in a warehouse at SANME-DONG (4 km N of YONGCH'ON).

Last Known Composition of Unit:
PW estimated that 50% of the troops in 45-mm AT Gun Btry, 48th Regt were killed by UN aircraft bombing and artillery shelling as of 11 Sep 50. All the 45-mm AT Guns in PW's battery were abandoned when they retreated 11 Sep 50. PW later saw these 45-mm AT Gun seized by the ROK troops. PW heard from a fellow soldier that 1/3 of the troops in the 48th Regt were killed and wounded as of 11 Sep 50.

Dispositions: PW heard from the battery messenger o/a 11 Sep 50, that the 15th Div Hqs was located at UISONG.

Armor: PW observed 2 x T-34/76 tanks at approx 12 km S of UISONG o/a 30 Aug 50. These tanks were heading south.

Personalities: 45-mm AT Btry, 48th Regt CO - MA, Tong Ha (마동하); Lt; Age, about 40 years old. Remarks: KIA N of UISONG ? Aug 50.
1st Plt Ldr: IM, Kyong Ho (林경호); Jr Lt; Age about 24. Remarks: Wounded in left foot by shell fragment at YONGCH’ON o/a 8 Sep 50.
2nd Plt Ldr: CH’OE, Yong Wang (최용왕); Jr Lt; Age about 25.


Morale: Morale of the troops was low due to heavy casualties.

4. GENERAL:
PW stated that he did not see any Red Cross Insignia on hospital buildings in N KOREA.
