Morale:
Troops feel that there is no hope of victory after seeing UN aircraft and ground troops in action and the terrific toll in casualties in their own units. Food situation bad. NKPA troops fear enemy fighter aircraft and artillery most.

Propaganda Leaflets:
PW saw propaganda leaflets and carried one on his person until rain made the writing unreadable. PW knew that treatment by the UN Forces would be good and in fact he secretly asked one of the prisoners (ROK) taken by his unit about it and the PW confirmed it.
UN prisoners were treated very badly. During interrogation of prisoners PW saw ROK prisoner being beaten at CHACH’ON-DONG (1180-1460) with blood dripping from his nose and cheeks. Side arms were fired close by him to force him to talk and when the PW refused to do so, he was taken out and murdered. PW and his older brother, having opposed Communism, were tortured by pouring water in their nose, beaten and at times a piece of stick would be placed between their fingers then squeezed. PW's older brother was finally murdered. PW family lost all possessions. PW saw 20 US Negro and Caucasian PsW on a truck entering ANDONG (24 Aug 50).
Div Headquarters, unknown.

REMARKS:
With N. Korean money it costs anywhere from 550 to 800 WON for 25 pounds of rice. 100 NK WON is equal to 1,000 S. Korean WON.
