PW not intelligent and had very little military information due to his limited experience. The numerical designation of PW’s unit may be regt’l code number.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
28 Jul 50: PW inducted at SINUIJU (新義州). Assigned to a training unit organized after start of hostilities. Majority of unit, the designation of which was unknown, composed of fresh conscripts except for officers who had previous military experience with the NKPA. PW’s training included the usual basic infantry training. Entire unit unarmed at this time.
2 Aug 50: Entire unit received small arms, Russian bolt-operated rifles, SMG’s, LMG’s and HMG’s (no mortars). PW heard for the first time that unit was known as the 574th Security Regt, composed of three Bns. PW’s platoon was organic to Regt, known as an AAMG plt. Platoon, however, never received and AAMG’s. PW is not certain, but believes that Regt’s strength was 2,000 at this date.
3 Aug 50: Entire Regt departed SINUIJU by rail.
o/a 10 Aug 50: Regt detrained at SEOUL. Regt remained in a school building located on the outskirts of SEOUL, for a day. Regt departed the following night on the same train. Approx 11 wooden boxes, all of which were under padlocks, were loaded on the train at SEOUL. A finance officer (Lt) accompanied boxes, reportedly containing the Regt’s pay.
o/a 15 Aug 50: Regt detrained at WONJU (原州). Regt departed the same night. PW’s platoon (AAMG) was then assigned to guard the pay boxes. Boxes were transported by ox carts, taking up the rear of the Regt. PW informed by his plt ldr that Regt was to perform occupation duties at CH’UNGJU (忠州).
Date unknown: PW’s platoon, encumbered by their ox carts, entered CH'UNGJU 4-5 days after rest of the Regt. Learned from local residents that the Regt had proceeded towards ANDONG in as much as CH'UNGJU had already been assigned to another security Regt.
Date unknown: Platoon was ordered to leave the pay at ANDONG (安東) and join the Regt, which was in battle somewhere south of ANDONG, with full speed. Above order was received by platoon from a regt’s officer who accompanies a truckload of the Regt’s wounded. Wounded were being evacuated to a military hospital located in ANDONG.
o/a 2 Sep 50: Platoon contacted Regt 20-25 km N of CHACH’ONG-DONG (1180-1460). Regt, which had suffered some loss up to this date, was ordered to push towards YONGCH'ON around the left flank of an unknown division.
o/a 8 Sep 50: CHACH’ONG-DONG fell to the 1st & 2nd Bns after a costly engagement. PW’s platoon (AAMG) redesignated Recon Plt and engaged in patrol activities, primary mission being the locating of enemy forces. 3rd Bn in reserve during the engagement.
o/a 10 Sep 50: 1st and 2nd Bns launched an attack towards YONG-CHON (永川). It was reported later on that these two battalions were completely annihilated. Subsequently, the 3rd Bn, in reserve just south of CHACH’ONG-DONG, was encircled by counterattacking ROK forces. 40-50 from 3rd Bn managed to escape and contacted Regt’l CP situated just north of CHACH’ONG-DONG. Recon Plt remained to the rear of Regt'l CP during the above engagement.
15 Sep 50: PW deserted to ROK forces while on a reconnaissance patrol.
