2. ASSESSMENT:
This PW seemed confused and made several contradictory statements. He seemed to try to give as much information as be could, but did not appear to be too intelligent.
PW is not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
15 Nov 48 - Drafted into the Manchurian Army.
17 Nov 48 to Jun 49 - Basic training at CHANGCHUN (長春).
Jul 49 - PW and 85 Koreans from his unit in the Manchurian Army arrived at NAHAN, KOREA. Trained in truck driving.
15 Jun 50 - PW assigned as a truck driver to the 5th Div and moved south to WONSAN (元山).
24 Jun 50 - Departed WONSAN with the truck company, arrived in YANGYANG (襄陽) 25 Jun 50.
27 Jun 50 - Arrived in CHUMUNJIN (注文津), moved to KANGNUNG (江陵). PW engaged in hauling ammunition to the 5th Div, The Div generally advanced one or two days ahead of the truck company.
15 Aug 50 - Arrived in YONGDOK (盈德). The trucks moved only during the night and it required one month to move from KANGNUNG to YONGDOK.
12 Sep 50 - The trucks from the PW's truck company were sent to the rear and PW and most of the truck company became rifleman at a point 4 km S of P’OHANG-DONG. Older men from the rear replaced the members of the truck company, 1st Bn of the 10th Regt was surrounded by ROK troops. About 20 men of 1st Co were captured. PW believes the rest of the company escaped or were killed. PW threw up his hand and surrounded when surrounded,

Unit Organization and Strength:
5th Div (organized Jul 49 at NANAM. The 5th Div was composed of the 10th Inf Regt, 11th Inf Regt, 12 Inf Regt and an Arty Regt. The original strength of each infantry regt was 2,000 and the artillery regt, 1000. The actual strength of the 10th Regt was about that of a battalion when PW was captured.
In addition to the above regt’s the following units were attached to the Div:
1. Anti Tank Bn, which was composed of 200 men, 6 x 45-mm AT Gun Model 1937
2. Communication Bn, with 200 men
3. Guard Platoon, 30 men who were used primarily as laborers when the division was not on the line. PW did see the guard platoon men the Div moved to the front.
4. Training Bn - NCO’s were trained in this battalion when the division was not on the line. At the front the training Bn acted as riflemen. There were about 300 men in this Bn.
Each Inf Regt was composed of 3 infantry battalions and the normal strength of a battalion was 250 men, but the actual strength prior to PW’s capture was about 150 men.
The Arty Regt was divided into a 1220m Howitzer Bn, 82-mm Mortar Bn, and a 45-mm At Bn. The 122-m Bn had about 200 men and 4 x 122-mm Howitzers; the 82-mm Bn 250 men and about 9 x 82-mm Mortars; the 45-mm AT Gun Bn was composed of 250 men and 6 x 45-mm At Guns.

Intentions:
The objective of the 5th Div was the P'OHANG Airfield.

Morale:
PW stated that the morale in his unit was low, due to lack of food, ammunition, replacements, and daily air strikes. However, many were still eager to fight.

Miscellaneous:
Supply to the POHANG-DONG Area was by trucks which travelled only at night and were hidden in the apple orchards or wooded areas during the day. There was an ammunition dump 4 km S of CH’ONGHA (淸河). From here ammunition was hand carried or taken by ox carts to the line.
