2. ASSESSMENT:
On 6 Sep 50, PW as a leader with two other soldiers, deserted his unit. While escaping, he met his platoon leader, killed him, and took his pistol. Along the way, he met 3 more North Korean soldiers and, on 12 Sep 50, with a leaflet they all gave up to “E” Company, 35th R.C.T. PW seems to have limited information. He was disgusted with the whole war.

3. T/O & E OF PW'S UNIT:
7th Div & 2nd Regt: Number of men unknown.
2nd Battalion: PW heard there were 300 or 400 men.
Mortar Company: 60 men, 6 x 82 mm Mortars
Three (3) platoons and one Hq platoon in a Company: 18 men each. One mortar to a Platoon. PW stated that there was no squad.
All men carried Russian carbine, 70 rounds each, no grenades.

4. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
7 Jul 50, 3,000 men were placed into the volunteer group at SEOUL. On - Jul 50 this volunteer group was automatically placed into the 7th Division at SEOUL. Received no training.

5. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
Received two meals a day, food was gathered from empty houses in occupied villages. Source and route of supply unknown.

6. REPLACEMENTS:
PW stated that he saw many recruits coming into his unit at night.

7. ENEMY INTENTION:
Mission of the unit was to go to CHIRWON.

8. MORALE:
PW stated that the morale of the recruits (all S Korean) was low because they were forced to join the army; moreover, they were South Koreans and loyal to South KOREA.

9. KNOWLEDGE OF OTHER UNITS:
As of 4 Sep 50, PW stated that the 6th Division was south of the 7th Division.

10. CAPTURED EQUIPMENT:
PW stated that captured M-1's and carbines were used against the UN Forces.

11. SOUTH KOREAN SENTIMENTS:
PW stated that the S Koreans were welcoming the North Koreans.
In every village and city, they always made a welcome speech.
