FIELD REPORT (164 - LDI - 0839)　13 September 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: KWON, Tong San (權東山) (권동산)
PW NUMBER: 63 NK 2802
RANK: 1st Lt.
DUTIES: Asst Co Commander
EDUCATION: Middle School (2 years)
OCCUPATION: Farmer
ADDRESS: MANCHURIA, KITSURIN SHO, WARYU KEN, CHOKAN KU, TANGETSU SON (滿洲 吉林省)
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 111200K Sep 50 6 Km South of YONGCHON.

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very sincere and cooperative.
Information seems reliable.
PW was promoted to 1st Lt. from Senior Sgt because the Company commander was killed in action on 1 Sep 50.

3. T/O & E of PW’s UNIT:
15th Division was composed of three (3) rifle regiments, artillery regiment, SP Gun Battalion, Engineer Battalion, Signal Battalion, Medical Battalion.

Unit: SP Gun Battalion
Strength: Approx 110 men
Equipment: 16 SP Guns

Unit: 2nd Company
Strength: 24 men
Equipment: 5 SP Guns
Ammo: 60 rounds per gun

Three types of ammo: 30 (RYODAN)
25 (HA KO DAN)
5 (TE KO DAN)
Component of men per gun: Four riders, one armed with tommy gun, three carried pistols.
Four other members of 2nd Company who did not ride were:
One Cultural officer (文化部 中隊長)
One Technician (技術 ″ ″ ″ )
One Supply Sgt (補給長)
One Mechanic (調定拉工)

4. DISPOSITION OF ABOVE UNITS:
The SP Gun Bn, 15th Division was located in vicinity of YONGCHON (永川). The Battalion was surrendered by ROK Army at the time of his capture on 11 Sep 50.
Since crossing the 38th parallel on 28 Jun 50, the Battalion lost 14 SP Guns and suffered about 85 casualties (killed and wounded in action),

8. ARTILLERY:
Observed about 15 artillery pieces (120mm & 76mm) of 15th Division in the vicinity at YONGCHON (永川) on 8 Sep 50.

9. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:
Food supply of PW’s Bn was mostly confiscated in the occupied area after crossing the 38th parallel.
Ammo was all used up all of 8 Sep 50.

10. REPLACEMENTS:
Received no replacements.
Battalion CO with few men were sent to PYONGYANG to obtain SP Guns on or about 18 Aug 50.
Wounded personnel were evacuated to the rear for medical treatment. However, since the Battalion came to YONGCHON, wounded personnel were following rest of the troops, because the rear had been cut off by enemy.

11. ENEMY INTENTIONS:
Last objective of PW’s unit was PUSAN via YONGCHON.

12. MORALE:
The morale of PW’s unit was low due to constant air attacks, losing comrades.

13. US POW’s:
Heard that many US PW’s, about divisional size was killed or captured.

14. NK Air FORCE & NAVY:
Transport planes and fighter planes were observed over PYONGYANG everyday between 8 Apr to 5 May 50.

15. SOUTH KOREAN SENTIMENTS:
PW’s unit was welcomed by people in the occupied area.
