ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 1064　14 September 1950

FIELD REPORT (164 - MISDI - 0815)　11 September 1950

PW was cooperative. Information seems unreliable due to short period of military service.

PW was a SK conscript and deserter.

7th Company CP was located on a mountain approx 4 km South of YONGCHON N at the time of PW’s capture on 8 Sep 50.

Inducted on 26 Aug 50 at WONJU (原州).

PW did not receive any training.

A group of 800 SK conscripts (with M-1 rifles but no anmo) departed WONJU on 28 Aug 50, marched south and arrived on mountain on 2 Sep 50

PW stated that five (5) men were assigned to the HMG Platoon on the arrival day.

Next day PW deserted from the unit and was captured by ROK Army located approx 12 km South of YONGCHON.

PW received a three (3) day ration when they left WONJU on 28 Aug 50. After they ate their rations, they went out to villages and confiscated food (mostly rice) from farmers.

PW received one (l) issue of 40 rds of small ammo when they were assigned to the HMG platoon on 7 Sep 50.

PW believes that the group or 800 conscriptees from WONJU were the last replacements to 15th Div on 7 Sep 50.

PW saw a large number of wounded personnel who were sent to the rear for medical treatment between 26 Aug - 7 Sep 50.

PW’s sqd ldr was one of the wounded personnel, who returned to the original unit.

Objective of PW's unit was TAEGU by 9 Sep 50.

The morale among the regular N Korean troops was high but that of the S Korean conscripts who had rather desert than be killed was low.

PW observed a platoon leader carrying a US carbine on 7 Sep 50.
