2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative but not intelligent. Memory is very vague and dates entered in this report not considered reliable. Subject was not wounded, in good physical condition. No leaflets observed.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology: 15 Sep 46: Drafted into 3rd Independent DAN, KILIN, MANCHURIA (DAN equivalent to Bn). 3rd Ind Bn was a Security Unit of KILIN Province.
15 Sep 46 - Nov 47: Received marksmanship tng and political indoctrination. 100 Koreans were assigned to 3rd Ind Bn.
Nov 47: Entire 3rd Bn redesignated as 3rd RR Security Bn.
Nov 47 - 21 Jul 49: Served as guard on “CHUMUSSU (住木斯)" line between KILIN (吉林) and SUNGCHIANG (松江省) Province.
o/a 3 Jul 49: 3rd Bn received orders from CCF Hqs to dispatch all Korean troops to N KOREA. 85 Koreans from 3rd Bn were affected by the order. Remaining 15 men were retained by the Bn as interpreters.
21 Jul 49: 85 men from 3rd Bn were assigned to the 1644th Div which was composed entirely of Korean CCF troops who were being returned to N Korea. Strength of 1644th Div approx 10,000 men. The Div, without weapons, departed KlLIN, MANCHURIA by rail. The 1644th Div was composed entirely of rear echelon troops (RR guards, supply, etc) of the CCF. No unit designations known. The Koreans assigned to combat units of the CCF were still at the front on 21 Jul 49. The 1644th Div was the first Korean Div to return to N. KOREA. No information available on other Korean units of the CCF.
o/a 20 Aug 49: 1644th Div crossed KOREA-MANCHURIA border east of TOMEN.
o/a 23 Aug 49: 1644th Div arrived NANAM (羅南), redesignated as the 5th Div NKPA.
o/a 23 Aug 49-Dec 49: Entire 5th Div employed in constructing barracks and roads in and around NANAM Military Post. No troops were transferred from or assigned to the 5th Div. No tng conducted during this period.
Dec 49-Apr 50: 5th Div underwent basic military tng to retrain the troops in NKPA methods. Strength of 5th Div approx 10, 000 men. No appreciable gains or losses in personnel.
Latter part of Apr 50: Subject and 14 other soldiers transferred to 50th Regt, 15th Div which was activated at HOERYONG (會寧) in the latter part of Apr 50. Strength of 50th Regt, 15th Div approx 1,200 men in latter part of Apr 50. All troops with exception of 15 men from 5th Div were inducted in. Apr 50. 45th and 50th Regts activated in HOERYONG. 47th Regt activated in NAJIN. Div art’y regt u/k. Disposition 5th Div u/k.
Apr 50 - Jun 50: 15th Div underwent basic military tng.
Latter Jun 50: 15th Div departed by rail.
o/a 10 Jul 50: 15th Div arrived KUMHWA (金化).
o/a 15 Jul 50: Crossed 38° parallel.
o/a 10 Aug 50: Entire 15th Div arrived SANGJU (尙州).
o/a 10 Aug 50: 50th Regt crossed NAKTONG River.
o/a 20 Aug 50: 50th Regt supported 13th Div at u/k location. Fought for about 3 days.
6 Sep 50: Regt'l arty crossed a river 1 km E of YONGCH’ON at about 0600 hours, and marched south 1 km to an apple orchard where they were surrounded and captured by ROK forces.


Replacements: o/a 3 Sep 50 subject observed 400 unarmed replacements about 16 km N of YONGCH’ON. The men said that they were to be assigned to the 15th Div.
