PW was cooperative but vague. He has been a SK ammo bearer since 17 Aug 50.

DISPOSITION OF ABOVE UNITS:
8th Div Hq was located in a temple building approx 8 Km N of YONGCHON on 8 Sep 50.
Replacement Bn Hq of 2nd Regt was located in a tunnel (below RR track) approx 2 Km N of UISONG on 5 May 50.

ESTIMATED STRENGTH OF ABOVE UNITS: (as of 8 Sep 50)
2nd Flat consisted of 36 men. There were four platoons of 9 men sqds.
PW stated that about half of the 36 men were armed with rifles (M1), the 60-100 rds of ammo. Some carried grenades.
About 6 - 8 men were used as ammo bearers.

PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
PW was conscripted into the NK army at YONGJU on 17 Aug 50. Received no training.
A group of about 300 conscripts left YONGJU on 17 Aug 50 and marched south, arriving in the vicinity of UISONG.
They were quartered in tunnels (under RR track) located approx 3 Km N of UISONG from 21 Aug to 4 Sep 50.
On one occasion PW and other men (no. unk) hauled crates of small ammo (amount unk) from nearby tunnels to an area located on a road along RR track (south of UISONG).
PW observed about 5 NK troops guarding the area. Incident occurred sometime between 21 Aug and 4 Sep.
PW was captured by ROK army at hill 486 in YONGCHON area on 8 Sep 50.

ENEMY INTENTIONS:
No Info.

MORALE:
The PW’s unit (replacement Bn) totally constituted of S Korean conscripts who were, for the most part inducted into tne army against their will.
There was obvious discrimination between themselves and the NK regulars - especially in respect to food.
No positive enthusiasm can be expected of the members of this Unit.

S Korean people did not Welcome NK troops because they forced young men into the NK army. Most of them knew that they would be sent to the front or used as ammo bearers.

On 21 Aug 50 PW heard from NK troops that they have a sufficient amount of food.
PW believes that rice is now very scarce.

PW believes that replacements of 8th Div were mostly untrained troops who were conscripted in occupied areas (number of men unknown).
