2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative. Appears confused. Limited information. Military tactics unknown to PW. No training received.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Inducted in SUWON with 179 men, 25 Jul 50. Departed SUWON 25 Ju1 50 (179 men) marched to P'YONGTAEK arrived 26 Jul 50. Met 1,820 other men. Some were from SEOUL and towns in vicinity of P'YONGTAEK. No training. No arms or ammunition issued. Men were told that they were to repair bridges and roads as far as MASAN. No tools of any kind issued to men during trip to PANSONG. Escorted to PANSONG by 20 officers and 30 NCOs of the NKPA. Whether they were from the 6th Div was unknown to PW. No bridges or roads were repaired during trip. Departed P’YONGTAEK with 2,000 men and 50 escorts 27 Jul 50, marched to CHOCHlWON arriving 29 Jul 50. Slept in mountain all day and departed that night for CHINJU. Arrived CHINJU 19 Aug 50. Rested 2 days in CHINJU and departed the night of 21 Aug 50 for PANSONG. Arrived PANSONG 22 Aug 50.
At PANOONG 2,000 men were segregated to various units, designations unknown. PW was assigned to the 3rd Company of 3rd Bn with 280 other replacements and 20 NK regular Army men. 3rd Co departed PANSONG (300 men) on 22 Aug 50. Arrived HAMAN GUN, HAMAN MYON. Entered mountains and met the 9th Co of 30 men. 30 men (all Pvts) of the 3rd Co were transferred to the 9th Co on 25 Aug 50. (Where the 3rd Co went to from HAMAN GUN unknown.) 9th Co of 60 men spent 8 days in Mts because they were shelled by UN forces. They tried to reach MASAN, reason unknown to PW. At HAMAN when PW picked up a Safe Conduct Pass written in Korean and English. Since PW couldn't read, he gave it to one of his friends to read. After having heard and understood the contents of the Safe Conduct Pass he immediately buried the paper and he and 4 other men decided to surrender at the first opportunity.
On 4 Sep 50 PW and 4 other men made their escape to the TAESAN River bridge and surrendered to the UN forces. He tried to relay the contents of the leaflets but was afraid. He and the other 4 men were very happy to have the opportunity to surrender. LEE Su Tok was one of the 4 men who surrendered. Names of other 3 men unknown.

Morale:
Morale low until PW learned about the Safe Conduct Leaflets. Very happy to be here as PW and states that the food and treatment are good. Conditions causing low morale include unwilling conscription. Was told that he was to repair roads and bridges. When he learned the truth his morale was lowered.
