The 2d Bn of the 17th Tank Div on 3 Sep 50, was in YONGDONG.

Inducted Dec 48 with 3,000 others at CHANGJON, PYONGYANG PUKTO.

Between Dec 46 to Oct 47, the informant trained with the 1st Inf Div, 2d Regt. In Oct 47, the 2d Regt moved into PYONGYANG. Between Oct 47 to Oct 40, the 2d Regt received infantry training.

In Oct 48, the informant was transferred to the Indep 4th Inf Div, 1st Bn in CHINAMPO and trained until Oct 49.

In Oct 49, the informant was transferred to 208th Tank Tng Regt in PYONGYANG. The informant was trained as a tank commander until 23 Jun 50.

On 23 Jun 50, 20 troops of the 200th Tank Tng Regt including informant plus approximately 280 newly inducted troops activated the 17th Tank Division. The newly inducted were trained from 23 Jun 50 until 23 Aug 50.

On 23 Aug 50, the 17th Tank Division moved by rail through SARIWON, KAESONG, KYONGSONG, WONGJU and PYONGWAN.

From PYONGWAN the tanks were unloaded and travelled under their own power to YONGDONG, arriving 3 Sep 50. The 1st Bn was in the rear, 40 kms N of YONGDONG, and it was to join the 2d Bn on 4th Sep 50.

The tanks of the 17th Tank Division ware all new and were received from the Russians on 2J Aug 50. The informant heard that the tanks were brought to PYONGYANG from RUSSIA by way of MANCHURIA.

It is reported that approximately 3,000 newly inducted troops are being trained at SADON, PYONGYANG as replacements for The 103 Ind Tank Brigade, 17th Tank Div and the 16th Tanks Div, 16th Tank Div activated 3 Jun 50.

The informant believes that besides replacements a new tank unit will be activated upon completion of training.

The informant believes that RUSSIA will give the NK army more tanks to from several new tank units.

The troops were reminded daily to fight to the end. When capture was inevitable, they were told to commit suicide.

The troops were told to not disclose information when captured.

The 17th Tank Div is to support the 8th NK Inf Div by loading the attack. The plan of the Tank Div was to advance on the highway West into TAEGU.

Troops have very low morale because of:

Lack of food and fatigue

Lack of training

Lack of fuel

The troops are able to fight only because of discipline maintained by the officers and NCO’s among the troops.

About 200 us PW's were observed in PYONGYANG en route to the PW Camp. Location of PW Camp unknown.

CHINAMPO is said to ho a naval base. No further info.

The informant heard that there were sevoral aircraft at SADONG airfield in PYONGYANG.

Unknown because the informant did not come in contact with the people.
