2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative, reliable. Unit attacked AN'GANGNI from mountain previous night, did not enter town. At dawn fierce counterattack by ROK with tanks and US aircraft scattered NK personnel. PW surrendered to ROK Army. No further interrogation recommended.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
Inducted 10 Jan 47, at KIRIN, MANCHURIA. After talks to assembled villagers by army officers, young men told to enlist. Danger of losing farms. PW did farm work under NK Army in vicinity of KIRIN.
16 Apr 50, Regt (1st) brought to WONSAH. Given military training for 2 months until beginning of war. Left WONSAN 22 Jun 50, by train, truck and foot to battle front. Place unknown. After about a week, passed thru CH'ECH'ON (堤川), ANDONG. Gun destroyed by bomb. Continued as rifleman. No change in unit. Thru mountains arrived KIGYE (杞溪) about 1 Sep 50. Place names, unknown. After 1 day’s fighting, entered town. 2nd Bn went thru mountains to point S of ANGANGNI where captured.

Unit Organization:
PW states 1st Regt numbered 1300 men.
Last known composition, 50 in battalion. Some companies wiped out, some 10 or 20 men. Artillerymen incorporated at KIGYE brought strength to about 150 men.

Equipment:
76mm M1938 Mountain Gun. Manned by squad of 8 men. Hauled by 4 horses, 8 pieces per battalion. Each man carried Carbine.

Unit Duties:
Bombardment proceeding infantry units.

Unit History:
Organized Apr 50. All guns destroyed at ANDONG. Continued as infantrymen.

Disposition:
1st Regt, 1 mile S of ANGANGNI in center. 3rd Regt to N of them. Other unit designations unknown to PW.

Communications:
No roads, followed thru mountains. Telephone lines laid to CP’s.

Morale:
Low because of poor rations. Hard going. Believed officers as to outcome. No reinforcements. Wanted to surrender. Believed they would be killed by ROK Army. Some days ate twice, sometimes once. Sometimes without food 2 days. Only heard of surrender leaflets which the officers declared were lies.
