1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

DATE & PLACE CAPTURED: 031200 Sep 50 at a mountain (SOBOK SAN) by 5th Rct.

2. T/O & E OF PW’S UNIT:
PW does not know the T/O & E of his unit because be was with it for only 45 days.
PW observed 20 - 30 mortars (82mm), 15 x SMG, and about 20 x M-1 rifles in his unit. Each rifleman carried about 30 - 40 rds of ammo.

3. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted into NK Army on 24 Jul 50 in PYONGTAEK. Received no training.
Approx 2,000 men who were conscripted in PYONGTAEK left the city on 24 Jul 50 and passed thru TAEJON, MUJU, CHINJU, arriving in vicinity of OLD MASAN on 3 Sep 50. PW and three (3) other men were captured by US troops on the SO BOK SAN mountain approx 5 Km S of OLD MASAN.

4. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
Food was generally insufficient. Sometimes troops went to confiscate rice in the occupied areas where mostly farmers were evacuated.
PW received one issue of 25 rds of ammo in the vicinity of OLD MASAN on 3 Sep 50.

5. REPLACEMENTS:
Received no replacements.
Wounded personnel (number unk) were sent back for medical attention, however, none of them had returned.

6. ENEMY INTENTIONS:
PW’s Company CO always told his troops to fight to the last. He also told them that US troops kill all NK prisoners.

7. MORALE:
The morale of PW's unit was fairly high even though their food was insufficient. The main reason was that the troops were well disciplined.

8. CAPTURED EQUIPMENT:
Troops picked up US carbines and M-1 rifles along the road; however, they did not use them because of rust and dirt.

9. US PW'S:
On 28 Aug 50 near OLD MASAN, PW observed about 26 US dead who were buried along side of the road. PW recognized them as Americans because of their red hair.

10. SOUTH KOREAN SENTIMENT:
SK people whom PW mot seemed unhappy, because they felt that their belongings would be confiscated.

11. MEDICAL & BACTERIOLOGICAL WARFARE:
No information.
