1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. T/O & E of PW's UNIT:
The 16th Inf Brig (code 101) was composed of 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bn's and a motorcycle unit.
Each battalion was composed of 1st, 2nd and 3rd plts. Each Plt had 3 sqds.

Strength:
Inf Sqd - 8 x men, 1x SMG, 1 x LMG and 6 rifles.
Inf Plt - 1 x T34/85, 28 x men, 4 x SMG, 3 x LMG, 1 x HMG and 18 rifles.
Inf Co - 3 x T34/85, 150 x men (inclusive of medics, signalmen & supply bearers)
HMG Co - 30 x men and 3 x HMG
Mortar Co - 50 x men and 4 x 82mm mortar
Inf Bn - 9 x T34/85, 700 - 800 men
Brig - 27 x T34/85, 2,200 to 2,400 men
Motorcycle Unit: About 16 cycles and side cars. Note: the unit left SEOUL with the Brig but was not observed enroute. Subject thinks it was about a company in strength.

3. LOCATION OF ABOVE UNITS:
Brig hq was located at approx (1386-1159) the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bn covered a 3 or 4 Km front running NW to SE between (1391-1158) and (1385-1163) approx 1st Bn was on left flank, 2nd Bn was in center, and 3rd Bn was on right flank on 3 Sep 50.

4. STRENGTH OF ABOVE UNITS:
As of 3 Sep 50, the casualties for the 1st Bn amounted to about 50%. There were about two (2) platoons left in the 2nd and 3rd company, 1st Bn and one (1) platoon remaining in 1st Co, 1st Bn. Observed on two (2) mortar with the mortar co.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Entered Army at YONGYANG on 5 Jul 50. Departed on 0 Jul by train tor CHORWON. The trip took 5 days because the train only ran at night. Detrained at CHORWON on 13 Jul, received two (2) weeks close order drill and departed by train for SEOUL, arriving on 7 - 8 Aug 50. The trip from CHORWON to SEOUL took 1 week, traveling at night only. The 16th Brig traveled as a unit from CHORWON to PW's place of capture.
The 16th Brig remained in SEOUL for 5 days and on about 15 Aug 50 departed by truck for the south, arriving at TAEJON on about 20 Aug 50. The unit then marched thru KUMCHON and south to SINBON-NI (1389-1132), arriving about 25 Aug 50. Cities passed between KUMCHON and SINBABG-NI are unknown. The Brig remained in SINBANG-NI for 3 days and on 3 Aug 50, stopped at the NAKTONG River for 1 day and crossed on the evening of 31 Aug 50, While crossing the NAKTONG River subject heard from his Company CO that the "9th Div was in front of the 16th Brig". The 16th Brig reached PW's place of capture on morning of 3 days, contacted US forces about noon and subject surrendered about 1400 hrs. Subject is the only man from his unit who surrendered.

7. ARMOR:
Only 3 of the Brig’s T34/85's crossed the NAKTONG River. The remaining 24 were located in vicinity of SIHBAUG-NI (arout 15 located 1 km SE of city and 9 located 2 km NW of city). Both areas were wooded across. The banks were dug in as deep as the top of the tread and were then covered with branches and grasses.

8. ARTILLERY:
Just before crossing the NAKTONG River, about 1 km from the bank, PW saw about 30 x 45mm M1942 AT Guns. The unit crossed the NAKTONG River at (1387 - 1137), or (1397 - 1135). Which of the two it was unknown.

9. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLY:
The food supply was carried with the unit in the push south, However, after reaching SINBANG-HI, the food supply was all consumed and for 4 days after passing SINBANG-NI, so far as subject know, there was nothing to eat.
At CHORWON each man received 180 rounds of ammo. That was the only ammo that was supplied.

10. REPLACEMENTS:

11. MORALE:
Subject claims that there was very low in the unit because the troops were all green and they didn’t know what was going on.

12. CAPTURED EQUIPMENT:
No information.

13. US PW:
Subject observed about 300 PsW about 5500 m from the SEOUL RR station. The men were lined up and entering a large gray building,

14. NKAF AND NK NAVY:
No comment.

15. INTERROGATOR's REMARK:
PW seems sincere. Information reliable.
