ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 944　11 September 1950

FIELD REPORT (164 - LDI - 0752)　8 September 1950

1st Regt - Unknown

1st Bn was composed of three Rifle Cos and one 82 mm Mortar Co. PW’s Co consisted of about 160 men.

2nd Platoon was composed of four (4) Rifle Squads. PW's Sqd consisted of 10 men.

Riflemen armed with M1899/30 Rifles, 70 rounds of ammo end 2 grenades.

Sqd ldrs armed with sub-machine gun. (Ammo unk)

Platoon leaders and officers carried pistols.

Assistant Squad leaders carried LMG (ammo unk).

1st Bn of 1st Regt, 7th Div was located in UIRYONG on 1 Sep 50.

PW believed that the Bn had started moving toward MASAN at 1900 hrs on 1 Sept 50. Disposition of other units unknown.

PW was inducted into the Army at SEOUL on 8 Jul 50. Received no basic training.

About 670 men who were conscripted in SEOUL left SEOUL on the same day and passed thru SUWON, PYONGTAEK, CHONAN, CHOCHWON, TAEJON, KWANGJU, MOKPO, back to KWANGJU, KURYE, KOKSONG, HADONG, CHINJU, UIRYONG and arrived in CHI JONG MYON on 31 Aug 50.

PW deserted his unit and fell in with a medical unit, pretending to be a medic himself. Later he hid in farm. PW was captured by US troops on 2 Sep 50.

Observed three (3) artillery pieces (caliper unk) in vicinity of UIRYONG on 31 Aug 50.

Food supply for PW's unit was sufficient until reaching UIRYONG on 31 Aug 50. (Source of supply unk)

Troops received 70 rounds of ammo one day prior to his capture.

Received no replacements. PW did not see any combat prior to his capture.

Troops were told by their platoon leader that anyone who tried to retreat would be shot to death.

PW heard among troops that tlie ROK Forces has no mercy on NK prisoners.

Objective of PW1s unit was not made known to the troops.

Observed about 200 US PsW marching northward in SUNGHWAN on 20 Jul 50. They were guarded by three NK troops.

Observed about 30 - 40 US PsW being taken into the central building in SEOUL on or about 2 Jul 50.
