2. ASSESSMENT:
Civilian occupation: Student
Education: P’YONGYANG 2nd High School, 2 yrs.
3 Sep 50 at 1700 aircraft attacked their camouflaged tank; tank crew became frightened and surrendered to ROK troops. One was killed, four surrendered. PW was unobservant and did not have detail knowledge of tanks. He possessed no information about the 105th Armored Div.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
4 Jul 50 inducted at P'YONGYANG into the 17th Armored Brigade. Received 1 1/2 months of tank training at SUNGHO-NI (腺湖里) approx 14 km E of P'YONGYANG. 12 Jul 50 17th Armored Brigade was redesignated the 17th Armored Div. Departed SUNGHO-NI 19 Aug 50. The 2nd Bn was composed of 20 x T-34/85 and 100 men. Tanks were loaded on falt-cars (one on each flatcar) with tank crew and approx 15 infantrymen each who PW insisted also came from the 17th Div. 1st Bn remained at SUNGHO-NI. Departed MIRIM NI 19 Aug 50 by rail, arrived WONJU (原州) d/u Aug. PW stated that they only travelled at night and passed through SARIWON (沙里院) and SEOUL. PW insisted that during the day the train was stopped in tunnels which were numerous between P'YONGYANG & WONJU. Exact location of tunnels unknown. Departed WONJU d/u Aug by tank, arrived UISONG (義城) 30 Aug 50. The 17th Div Infantrymen (approx 1,000 men) had proceeded the tanks and PW had not seen them after WONJU. Enroute PW passed TANYANG (丹陽), YONGJU (寧州), and ANDONG (安東). They were strafed by aircraft twice but none were damaged. Group travelled only at night.
When PW arrived at UISONG he saw 12 out of the 20 tanks. He heard that eight of the tanks were stuck in ditches with the batteries rundown or motor trouble. Departed UISONG 31 Aug 50, only 6 out of 12 tanks arrived 2 km NW of SINNYONG 2 Sep 50 as the other six had mechanical trouble. On 3 Sep 50 the tanks were strafed and bombed by aircraft. 4 tanks were damaged. What happened to the other two was unknown.

Unit Organization & Strength:
17th Armored Div was composed of 1st and 2nd Tank Bn, Signal, Arty, Motorcycle and Inf Units. No information on these other units except Tank Bn. PW stated that all these units operated together. 2nd Tank Bn had 20 x T-34/85 tanks w/5 men crew each. 4 Cos in a Bn, 2 Plts in a Co, and 2 tanks per Plt. PW's tank No was 727, 2nd Bn Co’s Tank No 701, others unknown. T-34/85 had two machine guns, 7.6 mm, rounds unknown, and 55 rounds of 85 mm ammo in one tank. PW did not know how many tanks were left. PW heard that the 17th Armored Div Hq was located in WONSAN.
PW heard that the 105th Armored Div was the first to go into battle. He also heard that there was a 208th Armored Div near P’YONGYANG. PW heard from fellow soldier that the Arty unit in 17th Armored Div would arrive in the vicinity of SINNYONG. PW stated that the mission was to liberate YONGCH’ON and then Proceed to PUSAN.
