3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Inducted 29 Jul 50, SEOUL. Received one week of basic infantry training, SEOUL (29 Jul - 4 Aug 50).
10 Aug 50, Subject and approx 500 recruits departed SEOUL 4 marched - arrived ICH’ON (利川) 12 Aug 50.
Departed ICH’ON 13 Aug 50 - marched - arrived CH'UNGJU (忠州) 15 Aug 50
Departed CH'UNGJU 15 Aug 50 - marched - arrived TANYANG (丹陽) 16 Aug 50.
Departed TANYANG - 17 Aug 50 - marched - arrived P’UNGGI (豐基) 18 Aug 50.

24 0900 Aug 50, approx 6 km N of UISONG, the unit (500 recruits) was bombed and strafed by 2 US aircraft. Minor casualties were received from the bombing. Two killed and 2 wounded.
At UISONG the remainder, 495 men, were assigned to various units of 8th Div. At UISONG there were also 700 other replacement (recruits) who were to be assigned to the 8th Div.
PW and approx 600 recruits were assigned to 2nd Regt. The 8th Div was separated by Regts at UISONG, 25 Aug 50 (Disposition of Regts, unknown).
2nd Regt departed UISONG - 26 Aug 50 - marched - arrived at a mountain called 766 (6 km N of SINNYONG (新寧) 31 Aug 50. At this mountain the 2nd Regt was separated by battalions (Disposition, unknown).
PW's Bn (3rd) marched from mountain toward HWA-NAM-DONG (4 km S of mountain). While approaching the village PW’s Bn was attacked by ROK Troops (1 Sep 50). For 3 hours the troops (N. Koreans) started to retreat. While retreating PW fell in a ditch. After falling into the ditch PW hid there. The following day (2 Sep 50) the PW crawled out of the ditch and started to look for food. While looking around, PW was captured by ROK Troops.

PW received average of 2 meals a day. Food was looted from villages.
Ammunition last received at Hill 766 (6 km N of SINNYONG) 31 Aug 50. 190 rounds per man.

Enemy Intentions:
Objective of 8th Div - YONGCH’ON via mountain trails.
