Military History:
Inducted 20 Jul 50, SINUIJU (新義州).
Received one week of basic Inf training (20 Jul - 28 Jul 50).
Tactical Movements:
30 Jul 50 PW and approx 2,000 recent conscripts were activated into the 574th Ind Regt, SINUIJU. On the same day the unit (574th Regt) departed SINUIJU by train. Arrived WONJU (原州) 3 Aug 50.

Departed CH’UNGJU 8 Aug 50 - marched - arrived TANYANG (丹陽) 14 Aug 50.

No opposition during march (WONJU-KUSAN-DONG). 31 0500 Aug 50 while the 574th Regt marched toward a mt 6 km S of KUSAN-DONG, they were shelled and machine gunned by ROK troops. Since the unit was attacked by surprise, the Regt CO ordered the troops to withdraw to KUSAN-DONG. During the withdrawal PW hid under a bridge near the foot of the mountain. On the following day (1 Sep 50) PW gave himself up to the ROK forces who occupied the mountain.

One Supply Plt in Bn, number of men unknown. One Engr Plt in Bn, 50 men, M1891/30 rifles, 30 rounds, two grenades.

PW observed five guns (120mm and 75mm), TOP'YONG-DONG, 28 Aug 50.

Vehicles:
Observed five GAZ-51 trucks, TOP'YONG-DONG, 28 Aug 50.

Supplies:
PW received average of two meals a day. Ammunition last received at KUSAN-DONG, 30 Aug 50 (20 rounds per man, Recon Plt). Source of supplies unknown.

Enemy Intentions:
Objective of 574th Ind Inf Regt unknown, however, PW believed objective of 574th Regt was YONGCH’ON (永川) via main highway.
