PW was cooperative and fairly observant. His information seems fairly reliable. PW stated that he carried a ‘Surrender Leaflet’ but it was confiscated when he was captured. PW did not know mere he was captured. Place of capture taken from PW's tag.
Military History:5 Jul 50 - m was inducted at SINUIJU (新義州), and assigned to the 73rd Regt. The 73rd Regt was composed of the 1st, 2nd and the 3rd Bns. There were about 1,200 men in the 73rd Regt. 20 days basic training (Close order drill, manual of arms with wooden rifles, fired 3 rounds with Russian rifles political indoctrination, etc).
3 Aug 50 - The 73rd Regt departed SINUIJU by train.
O/a 13 Aug 50 - The 73rd Regt arrived WONJU (原州). From WONJU the 73rd Regt marched south.
O/a 29 Aug 50 - The 73rd Regt arrived CHONGJA-RI (亭子里) via CH'UNGJU (忠周) and ANDONG (安東). About 50 men were killed by UN aircraft strafing mile enroute from WONJU to CHONGJA-DONG. The 1st, 2nd and the 3rd Bns took positions along the hills located approx 1.5 km W of CHONGJA-RI.
31 Aug 50 - PW and 7 others were separated from the 3rd Bn after heavy ROK shelling. PW estimated that the 3rd Bn suffered about 200 casualties. PW and 7 others were captured by ROK troops at the above hills 31 Aug 50.

Present strength of 3rd Bn - PW estimated that there were 100-150 men remaining in the 3rd Bn. There were about 200 casualties and many deserters. Other Bn's unknown.
Capability of Unit:Morale of the troops was very low, because the troops were mostly farmers who were conscripted after the outbreak of this war.
Vehicles:2 x GAZ-51 trucks loaded with food and ammunition accompanied the 73rd Regt from ANDONG to CHONGJA-RI.
Supplies:Ate once a day. Received food from farmers.
Each man had 100 rounds of ammunition on the morning of 31 Aug 50. Bn CO told the troops the 100 rounds were for 4 days.
