Co-operative but limited information because PW was unable to observe terrain he traveled over as movements were made at night only, and PW was in the 7th Div only short period of time.

Joined 3rd Regt', 7th Div YONGDOK 2 Aug 50. Given 5 x 60mm mortar rounds to carry YONGDOK 3 Aug 50.
Departed YONGDOK 3 Aug 5) - marched - arrived with 3rd Regt, 7th Div PIHAK-SAN (飛鶴山) (1210-l470) 21 Aug 50
Departed PIHAK-SAN 23 Aug 50 - marched over mountains - arrived CHONSO-RI 24 Aug 50. Enroute to CH’ONSO-RI PW had been temporarily relieved of carrying mortar rounds by another NKPA soldier. Having no weapon or ammo, he was issued a rifle and 78 rounds, 24 Aug 50 - CHONSO-RI - transferred from Mortar Co to 5th Co, 29 Aug 50 ROK units attacked PW's company (5th Co). When BOK soldiers advanced to PW’s foxhole PW surrendered 30 0200 Aug 50.

Weapons and Personnel:
2nd Bn, 3rd Regt present effective strength - 400 men (30 Aug 50).
Mortar Co, 2nd Bn 4 x 60mm mortars, 40 rounds (29 Aug 50), 3 x 82mm mortars (29 Aug 50).
MG Co, 2nd Bn 2 x MAXIM HMGs and 3 x Browning 30 cal LMGs.
Losses 200 men from 5th Co, 2nd Bn (29 Aug 50).

Vehicles:
PW traveled in one of approx 60 x 2½ ton trucks from SUWON to CH’UNGJU o/a 29 JUL 50. Observed 5 of 6 horse carts hauling rice and ammunition about 15 km SE of CH’UNGJU o/a 30 Jul 50.

Supplies:
Permitted to eat as much as PW desired 3 Aug 50 to 21 Aug 50. Thereafter daily rations diminished to average 1 bowl rice, barley or potatoes per day.

Enemy Intention:
Objective of 3rd Regt, 7th Div was P’OHANG-DONG via mountains between CHONSO-Ri and P’OHANG-DONG. Use of main road was not contemplated. Received no gas equipment or training.

Additional Information:
Observed about 30 guerrillas CH’UNGJU o/a 29 Jul 50. Observed 19 guerrillas TANYANG o/a 31 Jul 50. Saw leaflets dropped by aircraft over PIHAK-SAN o/a 22 Aug 50. PW stated that approx four-fifths of men in his company (5th Co) were former member of the “Peoples Liberation Army” (CCF). Their morale was hight and they avoided conversation and friendliness with replacements.
