ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 873　2 September 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 0651)　30 August 1950

Cooperative, information very limited because PW is completely illiterate and has had practically no military training. PW marched at night so does riot know the route travelled.

Inducted 4 Jul 50, KAECH’ON (价川 개천).

Trained in close order drill and manual of arms (with a wooden rifle) 3 weeks.

Departed KAECHON 24 Jul 50 with approx 2,000 men, who had trained with PW, by rail - arrived SEOUL 1 Aug 50. Approx 1,000 men remained SEOUL. Departed SEOUL 1 Aug 50 - marched with about 1,000 men - crossed HAN River by ferry - arrived WONJU (原州) o/a S Aug 50.

Departed WONJU o/a 8 Aug 50 - marched - arrived YECH’ON ( ) (1140-1530) o/a 15 Aug 50 - marched - arrived about 12 mi North of TAEGU (probably KASAN) 24 Aug 50. Joined 19th Regt 25 Aug 50. Spent the nights of 25, 26, 27 and. 28 Aug 50 carrying rifles and ammunition with about 40 other EM from some woods about 4 miles to rear of PW’s plt. PW issued M1899/30 rifle, 150 rounds, 1 grenade 28 Aug 50. PW Tias. sent with another EM to unload more ammo from a 2½ ton truck approx 4 miles to rear of PW's plt night of 28 Aug 50. Upon returning to his plt area 29 Aug 50, PW saw ROK soldiers. occupying area where his plt had been. PW and the other EM with him surrendered immediately 29 1000 Aug 50

Losses: unknown.

PW was one of about 1,000 replacements. arriving approx 12 miles North of TAEGU 24 Aug 50. Three (3) truck loads of small arms ammunition arrived 25 to 28 Aug 50 approx is miles N of TAEGU.

Received average of two rice balls a day. Received three rice balls a day as of 27 Aug 50.

Objective of 13th Div TAEGU. Received no gas training or equipment.

Observed no guerrillas. Saw no Safe Conduct Passes or other leaflets. PW stated that half of his plt were replacements and that their morals was low because they had not received combat training. However the combat veterans (approx 20 men) in his plt had High morale and talked about victory.
