Evaluation:
PW intelligent with good memory. Reiterated his certainty on the change of numerical designation of 12th Div to the 7th Div.
Firmly believes that the 7th Div will launch an attack towards ANGANG-NI in the near future.

Military History:
Date inducted - Apr 47, YENCHI (延吉), MANCHURIA.
Training - PW conscripted into People’s Liberation Army (人民解放軍) of MANCHURIA. 2 months basic training with wooden rifles. Cadre was composed of Korean officers and NCO’s. An estimated 130 (Co) Koreans underwent training during this 2 months period.
Subsequent to basic training, this company of Koreans performed guard duty at CHILIN (吉林). MANCHURIA for 2 years.
O/a Apr 49, an estimated 1,000,000 Manchurian Red Troops, including PW’s company, marched into CHINA to join the CCF in their battle against the Nationalist Forces. These Manchurian troops, including a few Korean units, were ordered to reinforce the CCF by order of the Commander in Chief of the Manchurian Communist Army, LIN, P’IAO (林豹). PW's company remained intact assigned to a rear echelon service unit of the XII Corps, Chinese Communist Army, in CHANGSHA (長沙).
Mar 50, an estimated 13,000 Koreans were assembled in CHUNGCHOU (鄭州) from various arts of CHINA, by order of MAO, TSE TUNG (毛澤東).
O/a 12 Apr 50, PW’s group of 2,300 strong, the last group to leave, departed by rail for an undisclosed destination. Majority armed with Jap M38 rifles.
O/a 19 Apr 50, 2,600 arrived SOPO (西浦) where 1,100 detrained. Remainder (1,500) including PW, proceeded by rail to NANAM (羅南).
O/a 22 Apr 50, 300 men, considered physically unfit, were dropped off at NANAM, and released from military service. Remainder (1,200) after resting at NANAM for about 20 days, continued by rail to HOERYONG (會寧).
O/a May 50, 800 enrolled. in the HOERYONG No Ill OCS. An estimated 1,500 N Korean officer candidates were also enrolled in this school. Instructors were composed of N Korean officers and NCO's. This school was better known by its code number, 766th Ind Unit, and will be referred to as such, hereafter.
23 Jun 50, 766th Unit with an estimated 2,500 officers and student, departed HOERYONG by rail, without any advance notice. Unit armed with Jap rifles, MGs, and mortars, with ample supply of ammunition.

Military History:
25 Jun 50 - 766th Unit detrained at YANGYANG (襄陽) and boarded 7 different vessels manned by N Korean Navy. Vessels were fairly large, ex Korean merchant ships, without armament.
25 1500 Jun 50 - Convoy, escorted by 2 x PT boats departed for an undisclosed destination.
26 0600 Jun 50, - 765th Unit debarked at CHUMUNJIN and immediately launched an attack on a small ROK pocket south of CHUMUNJIN (注文津). The din of battle could be heard from the south, where the 5th Div was reported to be attacking KANGNUNG (江陵).
29 Jun 50 - Observed the rear elements of the 5th Div heading south from KANGNUNG (江陵). Subsequent movements of the 5th Div unknown.
O/a 15 Jul 50 - 766th Unit advanced up to POHYON-SAN (1190-1470), CH’ONG-SONG (靑松). 766th Unit remained in reserve until after CH’ONG-SONG, at which time, it advanced south through remote mountain regions, encountering only isolated ROK Police units.
O/a 2 Aug 50 - 755th Unit followed 12th Div out of POHYON-SAN (普賢山). Designation of said division was learned from a member of same. Past operations of the 12th Div were not disclosed.
O/a 10 Aug 50 - 766th Unit down to approx 1,500 men, launched an attack from 6 km S of KIGYE (杞溪), with ANGANG-NI as its objective. 766th Unit was still operating independently and PW does not know the movements of the 12th Div since south of KIGYE.
After a 3-day battle nth the ROK Forces in ANGANG-NI (安康里) 766th Unit, in danger of being encircled, was ordered to withdraw to PIHAK-SAN (1210-1470).
O/a 17 Aug 50 - 766th Unit rejoined the understrength 12th Div at PIHAK-SAN. The 12th Div had also withdraw to this mountain, at this time. 766th Unit was redistributed among the 3 regiments of the 12th Div, majority being assigned to the 3rd Regt. PW was assigned to the Recon Co, 12th Div. According to friends, an estimated 2,000 replacements had arrived for the 12th Div. Reorganization was effected under constant ROK attacks.
O/a 23 Aug 50 - PW, for the first time, heard from his friends as well as his company commander that the 12th Div was redesignated the 7th Div and the division was referred to as such, thereafter.
It was reported at this time that the 5th Div was in the vicinity of POHANG-DONG.
27 Aug 50 - PW and a Jr Sgt changed into while civilian clothes and departed on a reconnaissance mission. Mission, as stated by the CO, Recon Co, ns to locate ROK artillery positions, troop strength, and main supply lines in the vicinity of ANGANG-NI. In going through the ROK lines at PIHAK-SAN, this 2-man patrol was never stopped by ROK troops.
28 Aug 50 (1500), 2-man patrol discovered by ROK infantry troops approx 8 km N of ANGANG-NI.

Personalities:
CO, 766th Ind unit - O, CHIN U (오진우) Maj Gen; Age 37 Remarks: Served with the CCF and subsequently, head of the No III OCS. Last seen at PIHAK-SAN. It was rumored at this time, that Gen O will return to N KOREA, since his unit had been broken up.
