ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 864　2 September 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 0660)　30 August 1950

Cooperative, seems reliable.

29th Regt composed of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rifle Bns, 120 mm Mortar Co, and 120 mm Gun Co.

1st Rifle Bn composed of 3 rifle companies 1 HMO Co (60 men, 12 x HMO) a 45 mm Mortar Co (80 men, 12 x 45 mm Mortars) and a AT Rifle Plt (25 men, 8 x 14.5 mm PTRD M1941).

Each rifle company consisted of 150 men, 2 x HMGs (700 rounds each), 12 x LMG, 27 x SMG, and rifles. Each man also carried 2 hand grenades.

Casualties caused by air attacks.

Indacted 2 Apr 50 at SUKCH‘ON. Received 3 months training with 29th Regt at SUKCH’ON. Training included basic infantry tactics with emphasis on mountain fighting. Departed SUKCH‘ON 16 Jun 50 detrained at P’YONGYANG 20 Jun 50~ Received further training at P’YONGYANG 20 Jun 50 to 20 Jul 50.

Departed P’YONGYANG 20 Jul 50 am marched south via SEOUL (30 Jul) TAEJON (6 Aug) and KUMCH’ON (12 Aug 50). Informant and 4 others deserted their unit 17 Aug 50. Three were caught by N Koreans and the other drowned while crossing NAKTONG River. Informant dressed as civilian and gave himself up 20 Aug 50. (location unknown).

After crossing 38° Parallel food was procured tram. the People's Committee (人民委員會) which was set up in each captured village.

No replacement for the 29th Regt since crossing the 38° Parallel.

Rumor that 29th Regt will attack TAEGU.

Morale of unit very low. Rumor among EM that the whole 2nd Co will desert when they cross NAKTONG River.

S Korean Civilian welcomed the NKPA. They were thankful to the NKPA troops for working for their country.
