Evaluation:
PW was cooperative. information my be. considered reliable. PW deserted, purchased peasants clothes, travelled with refugees, and then surrendered to ROK troops.

Military History:
PW was inducted 10 Jul 50, at SEOUL into the “Volunteer Army” 15 Jul 50, PW and 200 “volunteers” mostly students (including 40 women) left SEOUL without military training, marched - arrived YANGP'YONG (楊平) 18 Jul 50.
Departed YANGP'YONG 10 Jul 50 - marched - arrived HOENGSONG (橫城) 25 Jul 50.
Departed HOENGSONG - 23 Jul 50 - marched - arrived CHECH'ON (堤川) 26 Jul 60. PW observed freight train pulling 4 box cars at CHECH'ON station and also states trains came as far as CHECH'ON.
Departed CHECH'ON 27 Jul 50 - marched - arrived TANYANG 29 Jul 50. At TANYANG, 12 men and 8 women were separated from unit by political officers and organized into a Guerrilla Bank - Disposition unknown. Also 15 men who were able to drive were assigned to unidentified units and remained in TANYANG. 75 were assigned to another unit and left for ANDONG.
2 Aug 50, PW and 89 man were assigned to 1st Div, 2 Aug 50, observed approx 1,000 NKPA troops armed with HMG’s, AT Rifle, LMGs and Mortars, moving towards ANDO NG. During the 3 clays PW was in TAN YANG, he observed numerous trucks passing through town every night from 2100 hrs to 0500 hrs going in the direction of ANDONG,
PW and 89 men departed TANYANG 2 Aug 50, marched - arrived MUN’GYONG (聞慶) 5 Aug 50. PW states, half of MUN’GYONG was destroyed.
Departed MUN’GYONG, 5 Aug 50, marched - arrived YONP’UNG (延豐) 10 km NW of MUN’GYONG 6 Aug 50. PW states that 1st Div rear Hqs was situated in YONP'UNG. Details unknown.
Departed YONP'UNG 13 Aug 50 -marched - arrived HAMCH’ANG 17 Aug 50.
Departed HAMCH’ANG 17 Aug 50 - marched - arrived 4 km N of HAMCH’ANG 17 Aug 50 at a high NKPA Hqs (CG MU CHONG (武貞) (무정), situated at the foot of a mountain.
Here PW and 80 men were asked their address, civilian occupation, ate by political officers (reasons unknown). PW observed 3 Russians in civilian clothes, duties unknown, age between 35-40, armed with pistols, at the Hqs 17 Aug 50.
PW and 80 departed Hqs on 2 trucks, arrived YONGGI-DONG (龍基洞) (1140-1500) 17 Aug 50. At YONGGI-DONG, PW and 80 men received M1899/30 rifles. The rifles were delivered from an unknown place by truck.
Departed YONGGI-DONG 19 Aug 50 - marched - arrived KUNWI (軍威) (1150-1480) 21 Aug 50.
Departed KUNWI 21 Aug - marched 8 km SE and joined 2nd Bn evening of 21 Aug 50. PW and 80 men received 2 grenades per men. 24 Aug 50, separated from unit after artillery shelling, and walked south with refugees attar PW deserted from unit. At foot of P'ALGONGSAN (八公山) PW gave himself up to ROK Unit 25 Aug 50.

Foreign Elements:
26 Jul 50 PW observed 2 Russians in civilian clothes, age 30 (appox) unarmed, walking with NKPA officer in town of CHECH'ON (堤川). PW heard from group leader that these 2 Russians were Russian newspaper reporters.

Weapons and Personnel:
Div, Regt strength unknown. 2nd Bn - 300 men. 4th Co - 80 men armed with 2 Maxim HMG’s, 3 ammunition box per gun, 3 x LMG’s, 2 x magazines per gun.
HMG Co - 25 men, 5 x Maxim HMGs, 4 ammunition boxes per gun.
Mortar Co - strength unknown, 4 x Mortars, type unknown.
1st Plt - 25 men, armed with 1 LMG, 4 PPsh Submachine guns.
Anti-Tank Rifle Co - 23 men, 9 x 14.5-mm PTRS-41 AT Rifles, attached to the Bn Hqs.

Armor:
14 x T-34/85 tanks parked under trees observed at 2 km S of HAMCH’ANG (咸昌) 17 Aug 50.

Artillery:
2 horse drawn 57-mm M1943 AT guns observed at KUNWI 21 Aug 50.

Supplies:
2nd Bn received 7 rifle ammunition boxes, each box contained 300 rounds, delivered by 7 replacements from unknown ammunition dump, 23 Aug 50, at approx 10 km SE of KUNWI. 100 rounds ammunition received at PIAN (比安). 80 rounds left.
Received average of 1 rice ball a day. No food delivered after 22 Aug 50. Received rice from farmers.

Enemy Intentions:
Objective of 1st Div was TAEGU via P’ALGONG-SAN (八公山)
