Military Unit:
Attached to the 6th Div, 15th Regt, 3rd Bn, HMG Co on the 16th of August 50 at NEDONG, located just S of PANSONG.

Date of Capture:
21 Aug 50

Circumstance of Capture:
Prisoner entered the S Korean Army 5th Div Communication Co on the 12th of June 47 at KYONGSONG. He was directly responsible to 1st Lt YOO SEUNG MOON ( ) of the 5th Training Unit (at present located in PUSAN), He was taken prisoner on the 29th of June 1950 by the N Korean Army at SU SEK (水色) located just north of KYONGSONG and was interned in the 383rd unit stockade located in KYONGSONG and was transferred to the “Peoples Committee Headquarters” at KYONGSONG, where he remained until the 8th of Jul 50. Then on the 9th of Jul 50 he was given the choice of death or of joining the Volunteer Unit, he preferred to live. He was assigned to the KYONG GI Do (京畿道) Volunteer Unit, at that time it was 3,000 strong. Prisoner and his friend, a former S Korean soldier escaped as they had planned since their acquaintance at KYONGSONG. When they reached the lines of the United Nations troops they waved a white flag, but were fired upon and his friend was hit. He then ran down the mountain and surrendered to the S Korean marines, At their headquarters, he told his story about himself and his friend, about their plans and also of the note-book his friend had in hie possession which contained information about the 6th Div. Hearing this, the marines sent out a patrol and recovered the note-book. They said his friend was given the ; "coup de grace".

Capability of Unit:
Prisoner estimated that more than half of the Personnel in the HMG Co of the 3rd Bn had received more than a year of Military Training.

Supplies:
Ammunition was transported by horse and by carts pulled by cows, in the mountain areas; troops were used. When they neared the vicinity of CHINJU, the supply of ammunition was very low. Food was confiscated from occupied areas.

Location of Unit:
The last. known location of the 3rd Bn HMG Co was SANCHONG (상촌).

Armor:
Observed three T-34(85) medium tanks in CHINJU.

Foreign Elements:
Prisoner observed three Chinese truck drivers at TAEJON; they were N Korean Army fatigues.

Anti-S Korean Propaganda:
Only a few American troops are holding out in KOREA and they are not a problem, since they are weak soldiers.

Source of Equipment:
The N Korean's weapons are all Soviet made.
At KYONGSONG, he heard that approximately 100 American prisoners who had been captured at ANUI, were interned. The North Korean soldiers take shoes, clothing, wrist-watches and other personal effects from American PsW.
