Cooperative - information extremely limited and unreliable because PW was in Army short time and was confused as to what was happening while he was trying to adjust himself to a new type of life. PW heard from fellow replacements that he was in the 19th Regt of the 14th Div.

Inducted 24 Jul 50, P’YONGYANG. Received no training.
Tactical Movements:
Departed P’YONGYANG 24 Jul 50 - rail - arrived SEOUL 31 Jul 50 with approx 1,200 replacements
Departed SEOUL 1 Aug 50 - marched - arrived CH’UNGJU (忠州) (1090-1570) o/a 10 Aug 50
Departed CH’UNGJU o/a 10 Aug 50 - marched - arrived MUN'GYONG (聞慶) o/a 13 Aug 50
Departed MUN'GYONG o/a 13 Aug 50 - marched - arrived NAKTONG River (洛東江) o/a 15 Aug 50
Crossed NAKTONG River in vicinity of (1120-1490) o/a 15 Aug 50 - marched - arrived about 6 miles North of KASAN (架山 ) 24 Aug 50. Joined 1st Co, 1st Bn, 19th Regt and was told by NCO to follow him (NCO did not tell PW what plat or sqd he was in. PW did not know enough about the Army to understand that riflemen serve in definite sqds and plts).
Departed area approx 6 mi North of KASAN 24 Aug 50 - marched with 1st Co, 1st Bn - arrived at place of capture 25 Aug 50. Dawn, 26 Aug 50, ROK soldiers attacked PW's unit (PW uncertain whether his Bn or merely Co was attacked). PW hid in slit trench while his unit withdrew. When ROK 10th Regt soldiers moved up to PW's position he surrendered (26 Aug 50).

Losses and replacements unknown except that PW was one of 1,200 replacements that joined 14th Div 24 Aug 50 about 6 mi N of KASAN.

Observed 1 tank (type unk) about 12 mi SE of NAKTONG-NI (1120-1490) o/a 15 Aug 50.

Artillery:
Observed one light arty piece in vicinity of KASAN (exact location unknown) 25 Aug 50,

Vehicles:
Observed about 15 trucks approx 12 mi SE of NAKTONG-NI (o/a 15 Aug 50). Cargo not observed.

Supplies:
No food brought by replacements. PW depended on confiscation of food from farmers as he was enroute to 14th Div. Received one rice ball after joining 14th Div 24 Aug 50.

Enemy Intentions:
Objective unknown. Observed no guerrillas. Saw no Safe Conduct Passes or other leaflets. PW’s morale was low because he was lonesome, had received no training, and did not know how to fire his rifle. PW does not know about other men's morale as nobody dared talk about it.
