Assessment:
Interrogation was limited and general in nature inasmuch as PW was wounded and in a very weak condition. Recommended for further questioning concerning her background, duties and facilities of the NKPA Medical Corps after PW physical condition improves,

Military History:
Date Inducted - May 48 (volunteer)
Training - PW entered army as a volunteer doctor, with the rank of a Sr Lt. An estimated 100 female volunteers, for the Medical service, received basic training at the Army Central Hospital, P'YONGYANG. Training included calisthenics, first aid, rifle marksmanship, and Communist Indoctrination. Cadre composed of NKPA medical officers. There was another Sr Lt (MC) (female) in PW's class, Remainder were nurses of the enlisted grades. This group was the initial class. subsequent classes followed.
Females were taken into the medical corps only on a voluntary basis.
April 50, PW and the other Sr Lt, MC (female) assigned to the Medical Battalion of a Youth Training Unit located in SINUIJU (新義州). Medical Battalion comprised of approximately 150 officers and EM. Majority, females.

Tactical Movements:
26 Jun 50 - Training units in SINUIJU redesignated 13th Div and departed o/a this date. Medical Battalion was last to leave by truck, Russian rifles, covered with protective grease and crated in wooden boxes were delivered to the Medical Battalion just prior to departure. Rifles issued to personnel of Medical Battalion 5 days prior to departure.
Medical Battalion was well stocked with penicillin and a drug called "600". Ample supply of surgical dressing and equipment. No tentage, no cots.
As of the start of hostilities, PW and a nurse (M/Sgt, female) were attached to the 13th Div SP Bn, rear echelon. No other medical personnel attached to the SP Bn.
24 Aug 50 - SP Bn, rear echelon, bivouaced vicinity of SANDONG Primary School located in SAN DONG-MYON (1140-1470). Medical Battalion also located in the area. 13th Div Hqs located farther forward.
PW and nurse ordered by division to move south and contact the 13th Div NCO Training Bn which was deployed in the vicinity of YUHAK-SAN (遊鶴山). NCO Training Unit, a rear echelon unit, had been committed for the first time in combat and unit was without medical personnel.
PW and companion lost their way and were going through a shell-torn village when PW was seriously wounded by small arms fire, believed to be a ROK machine gun. Not being able to move, PW attended by her companion, remained in the village that night. Captured the following day by ROK infantry.

Artillery:
13th Div SP Bn crossed the 38° Parallel with 16 x SU-76.
Observed 3 seriously damaged SU-76's near MUN'GYONG, due to aerial bombing. Date unknown,
Although none were seen after the NAKTONG River crossing PW believes that at least 10 x SU-76 were still operating in the 13th Div Sector at the time of her capture.

Additional Medical Information:
There are several field hospitals where wounded are shipped by trucks. Field hospitals are located far to the rear of the front lines. Composition of field hospitals, unknown.
One General Hospital (central Army Hospital) in P'YONGYANG.
Source of medical supplies, unknown. Biologicals cannot be produced in N. Korea. Cholera, typhoid and tetanus vaccines are available to the military.
Most common disease among NKPA troops: dysentery (bacillary) and typhoid (no strict control on inoculation).
Majority of NKPA casualties are wounded by shell fragments.
UN PW compounds, with medical facilities, located in SEOUL and P'YONGYANG.
NKPA troops are aware of the fact that there are certain rules governing land warfare, however, details unknown. No knowledge concerning killing of seriously wounded NKPA troops or UN troops.
No knowledge on N. Korean plans for ABC warfare.
