Evaluation:
PW was cooperative, but information limited. Reliability - fair. About 1/3 of the men (including PW) who did not have uniforms received ROK uniforms at SEOUL o/a 11 Aug 50. Referred to CIC and JAG.
PW’s platoon (Engineer) did not repair bridges nor roads on the way to KUMHWA-DONG from SEOUL. PW’s platoon dug fox holes for the high-ranking officers when they were attacked by US aircraft.

Military History:
18 Mar 50 - Inducted at SINUIJU (新義州). Youth Training Center. Trained until 26 Jul 50. Fired 2 rounds from Russian mads carbine (TN: not listed in recognition book). Also repaired roads and dug fox holes during the course of training.
27 Jul 50 - The 19th Regt departed SINUIJU by train.
29 Jul 50 - Arrived KUMCH’ON (金泉). Left same day by foot.
O/a 6 Aug 50 - Arrived SEOUL. Stayed in SEOUL for 8 days.
O/a 14 Aug 50 - Departed SEOUL.
24 Aug 50 - Arrived 1.5 km N of KUMHWA-DONG (1151-1463). PW was separated from his unit after heavy shelling. 11 N. Koreans including PW were captured by ROK Troops and were handed over to the US 27th Regt.

Weapons and Personnel:
Battalion - 3 rifle companies (90 men per company), LMG Co and 82-mm Mortar Co.
Engr Plt (attached to Regt) - 30 men, 12 shovels, 3 axes, 6 crow bars. Among the 30 men, 12 were armed with M1938 rifles. About 15 men were killed in the Engr Plt by artillery fire. Casualties in other units unknown.

Capability of Unit:
Morale of the troops was low because the men were inducted into the army under false pretenses. Food situation was very poor and there were constant air attacks.

Armor:
In the vicinity (1.5 km N of KUMHWA-DONG) where PW was captured, there were 8 damaged tanks (2 T-34/85 and 6 T-34/76). There were also 3 operable tanks (T-34/76). Date - o/a 23 Aug 50.

Artillery:
PW observed 3 x 45-mm AT Guns (horse drawn) at the area where he observed the tanks. Date o/a 23 Aug 50.

Supplies:
PW had not eaten for 2 days when captured.

Additional Information:
It was rumored that the whole 13th Div (19th 23rd and 21st Regt) was in the vicinity of KUMHWA-DONG.
