Evaluation:
Cooperative but limited information. PW was hard of hearing.

Military History:
Inducted 6 Sep 49 at YONGAMP’O (龍岩浦). Trained at YONGAMP’O for 4 months.
Departed P’YONGYANG - 6 Jul 50 - by rail - arrived SINUIJU with 40 men - 6 Jul 50. Trained for 20 days in SINUIJU.
Departed SINUIJU with 73rd Regt, 1st Aug 50 - by rail - arrived SUWON - 8 Aug 50.
Passed through SEOUL at night, could not see any troop movements. Did not see any NKPA Troops in SUWON.
Departed SUWON - 9 Aug 50 - by rail - arrived CH’UNGJU (忠州) 13 Aug 50. No troops or equipment observed on trip to CH’UNGJU. Travelled at night. Town of CH’UNGJU deserted and damaged. Also saw 2 destroyed tanks.
Departed CH’UNGJU 14 Aug 50 - marched - arrived ANDONG (安東) 21 Aug 50. SOme NKPA troops were in ANDONG - Strength and unit unknown.
Departed ANDONG - 21 Aug 50 - marched - arrived IMAM-Ni 22 Aug.
The 1st and 2nd Bn’s remained on the outskirts of IMAM-Ni and the 3rd Bn proceeded to the mountain outside of town. They heard gun fire on the mountain and the Bn Commander thinking that they were NKPA troops yelled out “Don’t shoot, we are NKPA Troops”. The ROK Troops yelled back to them to lay down their arms and surrender. No answer from NKPA, so the ROK Troops stated dropping artillery and mortar shells on them. The ROK Troops attacked and PW surrendered. PW states most of the 3rd Bn killed and wounded. Approximately 100 men were captured. PW’s company was annihilated.

Weapons and Personnel:
PW’s Co - 150 men armed with rifles M1891/30, 5 to 10 rounds. 12 x LMG’s, 5 Submachine Guns in company. 1 HMG in company. 1 hand grenade per man in company. 1 x 160-mm M1943 Mortar in company. No vehicles observed in unit.
Morale: PW, entering combat for the first time, was afraid and believed the rest of the men were the same. Morale seemed very low. The majority of NCO’s and officers felt that N. Korea was going to win the war.
