PW was illiterate and very unobservant. He was one of the cooks in the battalion.

Since PW was a cook he was to the rear of the 1st and 2nd Bns (total 400 men) retreat toward KIGYE 17 Aug. Suddenly they were fired upon by the ROK troops. PW and a fellow cook retreated down the mountain to a road, and were captured by the ROK troops, 18 Aug 50.
Weapons and Personnel:When the 1st and 2nd Bn’s were retreating toward KIGYE 17 Aug 50, he saw only 2 mortar base plates and 1 x 82-mm Mortar.
PW believed all heavy weapons were abandoned in the retreat.
Supplies:Received one meal per day.
Source of ammunition supply unknown.
Enemy Intention:Mission was to take T’AEGU.
