Composition of Unit:
Headquarters of the 13th Division was located at SINUIJU till 5 July 1950, as of 15 July 1950 it was located in SEOUL.
The 13th Division consisted of the 19th Regiment, 21st Regiment, 23rd Regiment, Artillery Regiment, and the following attached untis; Training Battalion, Medical Battalion, Engineer Battalion, and Communication Battalion.
The 21st Regiment consisted of the 1st Battalion, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Battalion, 76 MM Howitzer Battalion, 120MM Mortar Battalion, 45MM Guns Company. Communication Comapny, Machine Gun Company, and the Medical unit.
The 2nd Battalion consisted of the 4th Infantry Company, 5th Infantry Company, 6th Infantry Company, Heavy Machine Gun Company
The 4th Company consisted of the 1st Platoon, 2nd Platoon, 3rd Platoon, Heavy Machine Guns Platoon, and the Medical Platoon.
The 1st Squad consisted of 10 men; Squad leader, a Sgt who carried a PPSH M1941 Tommy gun. Ass’t Squad leader, a Jr Sgt, carried a DP Light machine gun, and 8 Privates, all carried M1891/30 rifles.

Training:
From 5 March 1950 to 31 March 1950, general labor.
Actual training began 1 April 1950: political training, 2 hours daily, manual of arms, 2 hours weekly and military law, 2 hours weekly.
On the 22 May 1950 the unit was sent to the firing range; 5 rounds were fired by each man.

After leaving SEOUL the unit passed through SUWON, PYONGTAEK, CHONON, CHINGHON, UMSONG, CHUNGJU, TANYANG, MUNGYONG, and arrived at HAMCHANG.

Mission:
The main objective was to capture TAEGU.

Foreign Elements:
On or about the 28th April 1950, the PW’s Regiment was inspected by USSR Military advisors at YONG’AMPO. PW heard that the advisor were from SINUIJU.

Circumstances of Capture:
On 14 August 1950, the Regiment assembled 4 kilometers north of SINJYU. That night the Regiment crossed the mountains around 0200 hours, at which time PW’s Regiment was engaged in a battle with the South Korean forces, lasting until 15 Aug, 0630 hours.
Two scouts were sent to the mountains to see if is was clear so the Regiment could retreat. Upon return of the 2 scouts the Regiment started retreating when four jet planes started strafing the unit. The Commander was killed and the rest of the soldiers started to run in all directions. PW was captured by the advancing South Korean troops.
