Evaluation:
PW was cooperative and information seems reliable, however, PW had malaria and it seemed to affect the interrogation.

Military History:
Inducted at LAOT’AOCHU (老頭漕), MANCHURIA, 23 Jul 47. Received one week of basic training at CH’ANGSHANT’UN. PW was in the Independent 3rd Regt, 3rd Bn, HMG Co. Regt composed of 2,500 men. 3rd and 2nd Bns composed of Koreans. 1st Bn composed of Manchurians. This Unit was similar to a guerrillas forces, however the real duties of the regiment was to guard whatever area they were designated to occupy.
Departed CH’ANGSHAN T’UN ? Oct 47 on foot - arrived CH’OHO (蛟河) MANCHURIA on ? Oct 47.
Departed CH’ONG ? Oct 47 on foot - arrived PEICHILIN (北靑林) MANCHURIA on ? Oct 47. From then on until Dec 48, PW went back and forth between PEICHILIN, CHANGCHUN and MUKDEN searching for Chinese Nationalists. He participated in a battle at PEICHILIN.
Jan 49, at CHUTAI (大台), MANCHURIA, his unit was redesignated the Independent 6th Div, 16th Regt, 3rd Bn, HMG Co.
Departed Dec 48 - MUKDEN - on foot - Before leaving MUKDEN, his unit was once again redesignated, HMG Co, 3rd Bn, 466th Regt, 156th Div, 43rd Army, 4th Field Army. In this Unit there were Koreans, Manchurians, 3 Japanese doctors and the Japanese with of a doctor. Arrived PEKING Jan 49. Departed PEKING Feb 49 - marched - went north crossed the YELLOW River and arrived in CHANHSISENG, NANCHANG (江面省南昌) on 9 Jun 49. Remained there until Feb 50.
In Feb 50, all Koreans were told Koreans were told that they were going to KOREA. 22 Feb 50, they departed NACHANG - marched and by rail - arrived in March at HONAN SENG CHUNGCHOU (河南省鄭州) a gathering place for Koreans.
Here the 15th Div was organized. He was placed in the 15th Div, 4th Regt, 2nd Bn, HMG Co as company clerk.
Departed CHUNGCHOU - 4 Apr 50 - by rail via MUKDEN, ANTUNG, SINUIJU, P’YONGYANG to WONSAN arriving 20 Apr 50. The 15th Div was composed of over 10,000 men.
25 Apr 50, this 15th Div was redesignated the 7th Div. PW was placed in the HMG Co, 2nd Bn, 1st Regt, 7th Div as company clerk. No N. Koreans were in this Division, all Manchurian-Koreans. Received 2 months of training. Departed WONSAN - 8 Jun - rail - arrived KANSONG (杆城) 10 Jun. Departed KANSONG - 10 Jun - marched - arrived INJE - 14 Jun. Departed INJE - 25 Jun - marched - engaged ROK troops at 38° parallel. 3 men killed. Arrived HONGCH’ON (洪川) ? Jun 50. Departed HONGCH’ON - marched - fought for 3 days. Over 200 men were wounded or killed and 8 tanks damaged. At this time the 2nd Regt was at CH’UNCH’ON (春川). The 1st and 3rd Regts proceeded to WONJU arriving ? Jul 50. Departed WONJU ? Jul - marched - arrived - CHECH’ON - ? Jul 50. Departed CHECH’ON - Jul 50 - marched - arrived TANYANG - ? Jul 50. In the various engagements 50 to 60 men were killed. Departed TANYANG - Jul 50 - marched - arrived P’UNGGI ? Jul 50. Engaged enemy for 3 days, 30 men from his battalion killed. Departed P’UNGGI - Jul 50 - marched - arrived YONGJU - ? Jul 50. 120 replacements for PW’s battalion added here. Departed YONGJU - ? Jul engaged enemy, 5 or 6 men in battalion killed - arrived ANDONG - 1 Aug.
Between YONGJU and ANDONG, fought about 3 times. Unknown number killed. Departed ANDONG - 4 Aug 50 - (1st & 3rd Regts) foot -arrived CHONG-SONG (靑松) ? Aug 50. Departed CHONG-SONG ? Aug - foot - arrived P’OHANG-DONG - 13 Aug 50. Met the 2nd Regt here. Battle - 2nd Regt had many casualties. Departed P’OHANG-DONG - 13 Aug - marched - arrived ANGANG-NI (1210-1450) 15 Aug 50. 1st and 2nd Regts fought ROK Units for 2 days. PW’s Bn lost over 300 KIA. Artillery and small arms ammunition was depleted. Whereabouts of 3rd Regt, unknown.
Departed ANGAN-NI (安康里) 17 Aug - marched - for the purpose of reorganizing the 1st and 2nd Regt - arrived KIGYE - 17 Aug 50. The 2nd Regt fled during the night, whereabouts unknown. The 1st Regt broke up into Bns. In PW’s battalion, out of the original 630 only 90 remained. However they had another engagement at KIGYE and only 20 men survived in PW’s Bn.
18 Aug 50, because PW was hungry and having heard rumors that PW’s would not be killed, he took a platoon leader’s pistol and gave himself up to the ROK 10th Regt at 18 1000K Aug 50.

10 men for each HMG. 1,200 rounds per MG. Men did not carry weapons. Officers carried Tokarev pistols. 5 pistols in Co. One runner carried Carbine.
PW stated that in any attack or retreat that Manchurian language was used even in place names. In battle, all men wore white arm bands so that they would not be mistaken for the enemy.
According to PW’s opinion the infantry companies, over the entire period, captured 200 - 300 M-1’s, 50 - 60 Carbines, 2 x 76-mm Arty pieces, 7 - 8 trucks and 5 x .45 pistols. The battalion captured about 70 ROK soldiers.
5th Div accompanied the 7th Div from ANDONG to P’OHANG-DONG. Security Units were seen at KIGYE, however they were annihilated.
O/a 15 Aug 50, PW saw a company of guerrillas at ASNGAN-NI. They had N. Korean uniforms. These soldiers told PW that they were guerrillas.
Inf Sqd - 12 men. Squad leader. PPsh M1941 Submachine gun, 210 rounds, 4 grenades. Asst squad leader, DP LMG, 300 rounds. Rifleman originally Type 99 Jap rifles, later US M-1’s and Carbines, 70-100 rounds and 4 grenades.

Armor:
Saw unknown number of 76-mm SP guns at P’OHANG-DONG 13 Aug 50.

Artillery:
PW saw no other artillery pieces at P’OHANG-DONG or KIGYE.

Vehicles:
Saw 15 x ZIS-151, American 2½ ton, and YAG-4 trucks at KIGYE, 17 Aug 50. They were carrying men to and from KIGYE and P’OHANG-DONG.

Supplies:
Unknown.

Enemy Intentions:
5th Div to take P’OHANG-DONG. 7th Div, unknown.
