Military History:
Inducted 8 Jul 50 at SEOUL. No training. 4,000 other S Koreans conscripted into NKPA. Departed SEOUL 25 Jul 50, via SUWON, P’YONGTAEK, TAEJON, KUMSAN: arrived at CHINJU 2 Aug 50. Rifle issued 17 Aug 50 at CHINJU.
Unit engaged in battle dawn of 18 Aug 50 and retreated. Informant and another deserted and surrendered.

Armor:
7 x T-34/85 tanks observed moving south during night of 28 Jul at TAEJON.

Artillery:
Observed during night 16 Aug 50 12 x 45-mm AT Guns, 6 x 76-mm Howitzers and 15 x 122-mm Howitzers. All were drawn by trucks loaded with ammunition and were moving west out of CHINJU (1100.8-1350.6).

Food and Ammunition Supplies:
Observed 20 oxcarts loaded with ammunition and approximately 100 S Korean civilians carrying ammunition heading south from TAEJON to KUMSAN during 30 Jul 50. Troops lived off the land.

Replacements:
4,000 S Koreans conscripted by NKPA departed SEOUL 25 Jul 50.
2,000 joined the 6th Div as replacements 15 Aug 50 at CHINJU. The other 2,000 separated at KUMSAN 30 Jul 50.

Enemy Intentions:
No information

Morale:
Morale of unit low because they were S Koreans and did not want to fight S Koreans.

Captured Equipment:
Approximately 40 US make 2½-ton trucks were observed transporting personnel between TAEJON and CHINJU, 30 Jul - 15 Aug 50.
Approximately 60 guerrillas armed with American M1 rifles and carbines were observed near CHIRI-SAN 6 Aug 50.

American PW:
S American PW’s with shovels carrying the body of a dead American were observed near CHOCH’IWON 26 Jul 50.
Hearsay: American PW’s were placed on top of freight cars hauling supplies south to discourage air attack.

Civilian Attitude:
S Koreans are afraid of North Koreans because the NKPA was forcing many S Koreans to join the Army.
