ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 696　22 August 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 514)　19 August 1950

PW was cooperative but had only limited military information.

Drafted 20 Jul 50 at SUWON. Received no training. PW stated that rifle was issued one day prior to his capture on 17 Aug 50. 1st Bn departed P’YONGTAEK 27 Jul 50 via mountain roads and highways and arrived CHINJU on 15 Aug 50. Date and place names between P’YONGTAEK and CHINJU were unknown. PW was wounded and was captured by US troops at approx 16 km W of MASAN on 18 Aug 50.

1st Bn of 13th Regt was located approx 20 km E of CHINJU on 18 Aug 50.

Troops in 1st Plt were armed with rifles, 2 x HMG’s and 4 x LMG’s. Only platoon leaders had grenades (two). Other equipment in carious units unknown.

Food and ammo were brought over by trucks from P’YONGTAEK (Amount unknown). Last food and ammo supplies were received by PW’s unit at approx 16 km E of CHINJU on 15 Aug 50. PW received twenty (20) rounds of ammo on this date.

Observed about 10 US PsW who were guarded by one NK soldier on a road-side a CHOCH’IWON on 5 Aug 50.

Members of communist party is occupied towns and villages welcomed NK troops. However, farmers hated them because their sons were forced to join their Army.
