Departed KUMHWA 29 Jun 50 - marched - arrived and passed through HONGCH’ON (洪川), WONJU (原州), UMSONG (陰城), KOESAN (槐山), POUN (報恩) and arrived KUMCH’ON on 8 Aug 50.
On 9 Aug 50 departed KUMCH’ON (金泉) and crossed the NAKTONG River o/a 10 Aug 50 and proceeded to an unknown mountain. PW stated the 22nd Regt crossed the NAKTONG River at dawn wading through chest high water balding on to a rope. PW observed only the 22nd Regiment crossing the river at the time. PW observed 3 tanks cross the NAKTONG River where the river was 4 feet deep. At the time of crossing the NAKTONG River they were not subjected to enemy fire. No artillery or vehicles crossed the river at the times.
PW was separated from his company on 17 Aug 50 when the company of 70 men tried to occupy a hill. They were counterattacked. PW had bad feet so he did not flee and was captured by the ROK troops. At time of capture PW was armed with M1891/30 rifle, 80 rounds. He had fired 20 rounds and had 2 grenades.

Weapons and Personnel:
Div - unknown, Regt - 3,000 men, Bn - 500 men, Co - 130 men, Plt - 40 men, Sqd - 10 men. Riflemen armed with M1891/30 rifles. 100 rounds, 2 grenades. Sqd’ ldr with PPsh submachine gun, 72 rds, 2 grenades. Ass’t sqd ldr with DP LMG, 40 rounds, 2 grenades. Officers with pistols. 4 x MAXIM Heavy machine gun with M1981 Sqd parties mount in company. 2 x 160mm M1973 type mortar in a company. Observed immediately after crossing NAKTONG River but not thereafter. PW insisted it was 160mm mortar and was sure of the description. PW states there were 10 x 160mm mortar in the 2nd battalion, size 4 x Light mortars.
PW stated before crossing the NAKTONG River the 22nd Regt eliminated the 1st battalion and raised the 2nd and 3rd battalions to full strength of 500 men each. Other changes of battalions unknown. PW did not observe any replacement in 22nd regiment. Original strength of Regt was 3,000 men but last 50% prior to crossing the NAKTONG River.

Supplies:
No supplies observed or received after crossing NAKTONG River on 10 Aug 50. Food was scarce. PW ate one or two meals a day. The food was received from different units or taken from villages.

Enemy Intentions:
Objective of the 22nd Regt was T’AEGU. Strategic movements and intentions unknown.
Note: PW heard from his sqd ldr that the 22nd Regt was attached to the 15th Div. 22nd Regt was originally a Youth Training Regt and was designated the 22nd Regt after crossing the NAKTONG River.
