ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 639　21 August 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 0465)　18 August 1950

PW was of low mentality and had very little information to offer on NK security forces.

Date inducted - 5 Jul 50 P’YONGYANG.

Training - none

6 Jul 50 - Departed P’YONGYANG by rail. Entire 10th Bn, strength 700. All were recently inducted except NCOs and officers. Bn was not issued weapons.

16 Jul 50 - Arrived CH’UNCH’ON via SEOUL. Rail connection between SEOUL and CH’UNCH’ON was not disconnected. No other unit observed.

16 Jul 50 - Departed CH’UNCH’ON on foot. Entire 10th Bn.

18 Jul 50 - Arrived HONGCH’ON. 50% of officers received US carbines. 50 % of EM received Jap M38 rifles. Weapons were in good condition. Approx 75 rds wer rifle. Approx 2 magazines per carbine.

24 Jul 50 - Departed HONGCH’ON on foot. Companies departed separately.

25 Jul 50 - Passed WONJU (原州). Whereabouts of other companies of 10th Bn unknown. No other units, tanks, or artillery observed.

Date unk - Arrived YONGJU via CHECH’ON & TANGYANG.

Date unk - Arrived somewhere S of TAEJON DONG (1200-1490). 2nd Co become disorganized in its forward assembly area after being attacked by ROK forces. PW became separated from company, walked into TEJON DONG and was captured by ROK troops. In its approach march, a platoon of unidentified NKF troops was encountered by 2nd Co, at a point, approx 6 km S of TAEJON DONG. Whereabouts of other companies of 10th Bn unknown. No further information.
